“Fantastic Break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013 via mobile

Stayed in one of the Dragonsfly Watersedge Lodges (no 6) for a 4 day break.

The lodges are absolutely stunning and
the interior is beautifully designed. We all loved it especially the hot tub!

The park is located near to Hornsea and Beverley and there is a small village which is a short walk away where you will find a chinese restaurant, a fish and chip shop and two pubs. There is a costcutter and a newsagents too.

We didn't use any of the park facilities as we purely used it as a base for many days out. If you don't mind travelling Whitby is a definite must do and is about an hour and a half away. Hornsea is a nice small seaside town and Beverley is a traditional town for shopping.

We hope to return one day and would recommend to family and friends however please be aware there is a sewage smell on the park. It didn't put us off and we only really noticed it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. There is also a lot of road noise as there is a dual carriageway behind it however we only noticed it when we were in the hot tub in the evenings as we were out during the day.

The wifi connection is very poor in the lodges too.

We have had the privilege of just coming home from second visits to dacre and again an absolutly fantastic weekend break . So clean and beautifully furnished are the lodges there equipt with everything you could possible need,The hot tub was amazing and over looking the beautiful lake with the added presence of the ducks was wounderful :) ...... Watching other guest enjoying water sports was great . ( not for me I much preferred the hot tub and a glass or wine ;) ) but great to see. I usually do these weekends with the girls but so confident in the place we have booked again to go in feb and take the kidz !!! ..... So great for any type of party weather your a family or a couple or a group I would highly recommend this place .

As you will see from my rating, the lows weren't bad enough to put us off this place and its charms.

Below listed the highs and lows and other notable comments:-

Highs
-Beautiful park and lake, lovely setting
-£2 pitch and putt (bargain)
-Pods have lights, power sockets and heaters, are clean warm and dry
-Nice little bar at reception

Lows
-The drinking water comes out of a pipe sitting on the floor and the water tastes awful (I am not fussy about water but it was horrid)
-The shower costs 30p for 3 minutes which is cheap but it is awful, like a dribble!!
-In the morning the smell of raw sewerage coming from the drains in the shower block was horrendous

Other notable comments
-Dacre Arms pub food is good as others have said
-There are water sports available on the lake (i didn't use them)
-They sell disposable bbq's, airbeds etc in the reception
-Our friends had to pay £5 for their dog and they paid an extra £5 for a 'family' pod, it wasn't big enough for a family!

Room Tip: If i was going to stay here again, i would pay the extra for a lodge

This place is a hidden gem in Yorkshire. We have just returned from the Garden Lodge which oozes style, character and luxury. I work in media in a stressfull job and my worries and stress melted as soon as I opened the gate.
The decor is something from a 5 star resort. Whoever put this place together knew what they were doing. It's sumptious and the hot tub is the icing on the cake (although it could do with being a bit more powerful)
The site itself is good. Don't be put off my the drive up off the road, you're on the road to a secluded and lovely place. Yes, sometimes there's a little smell from the sewer works nearby. But, there's always a smell of something in the countryside.
The lake is perfect and great to keep the kids entertained. The clubhouse is ideal for a cheeky evening time drink - it's great on a Saturday night when a 'turn' will entertain you (in a good or bad way!)
Yes there could be improvements - I didn't say it was perfect! Not having your towels changed all week takes some getting used to and maybe a change halfway through the week would help. But you can hire a new set if you get too grubby.
The manageress is a darling and her husband is very helpful - a great family team for a great family holiday. I WILL be returning, if I can get the time off and they have availability.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the Garden Lodge. The secluded privacy makes you feel in the middle of knowhere!

Ok, the lodges are advertised as being tranquil but the dual carriageway on the other side of the adjacent earth bank precludes that with road noise being very loud especially at rush hour. The sewage treatment works (a large one) is about 200 feet from the lodge we stayed in (number 20) so bring nose plugs -either when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction or you want to walk to the bar. Have a look on Google Earth and you can see the proximity of the road and the treatment plant.
Those crappy bits aside the lodges were modern, clean and cosy. The hot tub was very pleasant. The bar was Ok and the water sports were very limited but fun nonetheless. The local village had good shops and eateries.
Only about eight of the lodges are actually on the lake's edge, we were lucky because 20 was one of them and this gave a nice view.
Friendly staff too but we won't be back purely because of the smell and the road noise.

Room Tip: Insist upon one of the following lodges to get lakeside; 15 - 24, although the lower numbers are nea...

Firstly let me say how impressed we were by the pictures on the website & were really excited when we we pulled up in the car as the little camping pod and surrounding areas looked wonderful, that was until we got out of the car and the smell hit us like a bus.
At first we thought it was perhaps the lake that smelled, until we started to unload the car & explore the area a little bit and discovered that our pod was a mere 15 feet from a huge sewage pot!!!
It smelled vile & there was no getting away from it, it was almost impossible to eat outside as the smell was so strong.
When i mentioned it to reception they tried to fob me off by saying that ' someone had been muck spreading nearby ' ... nothing to do with that massive pot of poo then!!!
Such a shame as the place is absolutely beautiful!

Stayed in Lodge 1, which is located facing a pond that is surrounded by other lodges, rather than the large lake on the site. This means that privacy is restricted a little, the hot-tubs are mainly sunken so once you are in and bubbling away - it's quite nice looking out onto the pond (did this most evenings.) The tub water was checked every day - didn't have a problem with the water quality or bugs in the water - just make sure the cover is put on when not being used. The lodge backs on dual carriage way which means that road noise can be an issue if you have the windows open on hot days. Inside was very clean and modern - we had the pet friendly lodge and there were a few dog hairs around, but guess that comes with the territory (considering the use - a great job has been done on keeping the place very clean.) There's a cooker, fridge , dishwasher, but no washing machine (a laundry room is available on the camp site area.) There's a flat screen TV with Freeview channels only. WIFI signal was poor, 1 bar and difficult to maintain connection. Staff on site are very friendly and efficient - had a small leak in one of the towel radiators which was fixed very quickly. Would recommend taking more towels - if you are using the tub daily and going to one of the many beaches in the area - you will need them. There's a pub and Chinese restaurant in the village area - used the Chinese - nice food but didn't help sorting out a problem we had with the order :( There are lots of places to take dogs -think we wore our poor old pooch out with all the activity - read the guest book in the lodge for other guests recommendations, which we found very useful.
In summary, if you want a lodge holiday in this area, we would highly recommend it and would stay again.
