Our experience of Whites Restaurant was memorable, and actually one of the best we have had in a restaurant anywhere in the world, albeit without some of the iconic views!
Two choices, the tasting menu, and à la carte – we chose the latter – and could have selected any of the dishes. Food presentation, quality, and the fusion of ingredients and flavours is exceptional. The amuses-bouches (before and between all courses) were all a joy; home-made bread and butter, outstanding.
The wine list is nice, varied, imaginative and sensibly-priced.
The restaurant is small (maybe 24 covers), but nicely laid-out for privacy and intimacy.
The staff are delightful, knowledgeable (full marks to the lady who knows all the cheeses), perceptive, and discreet.
The final impressive touch is that the owner-chef, who has been visible at his craft in the kitchen throughout the evening, steps out to introduce himself and check that you have enjoyed, as you leave.
Deeply impressive – we’ll be back, for the tasting menu!
One note, to a minority of diners, and not within the control of the management – gents, don’t turn up in jeans, regardless of how much you paid for them. You are disrespectful to the artistry and class of the establishment, to your ladies, and to the other diners who made the effort!
Well that’s just my old-fashioned view and I’m sticking to it!!
