Egglestone Abby essentially a ruin but with enough of it remaining to spark your imagination. It is a place that is at once both romantic, with its warm honey stone and nearby grazing cattle, and eerie with its tale of improvised monks and dark lords. As a picnic spot it takes some beating with its breathtaking views over that same river Tees that inspired artists and poets so long ago.
