Having stayed in many cottages over the years in the area as my family live in Barnard Castle,I have to say hilltop cottage has been my favourite, the location is great, the cottage is stunning.
Upon arrival we arrived late Friday evening and the cottage was lovely and warm, a lovely touch to find biscuits and milk. The lovely courtyard garden is ideal to sit out on a evening, we were very lucky to have a good few days of hot weather.
Bedrooms are a real good size and I’ve never slept so well in the double room. Bathroom, is modern with a lovely large bath tub and shower.
Upon booking I booked for a Monday to Friday I loved it that much that I did inquire with Philip if we could stay longer, unfortunately other guests were coming. I will be booking to come again in the next few months. Thanks to Philip and Elaine for a lovely stay.
A convenient cottage in a quiet village next to the Pennine Way and near Barnards Castle. Easy parking, new kitchen & bathroom facilities and a nice little enclosed garden perfect for a dog.
Kind gifts of tea, milk & biscuits (also for dog) on arrival. Shame the place was freezing! Effective gas heater in kitchen tho and log burner(not cleaned) in sitting room. Had to buy more logs as only few provided. If you want a bath you may also need to increase the water temperature on the boiler.
Friendly village pub (Ancient Unicorn) with outstanding food in traditional old pub decor. Friendly well-intentioned owners of cottage too.
village setting ideal position for touring the area -disappointed there was no local shop the nearest being 10 minutes drive into Barnard Castle- local pub restaurant very welcoming serving good value food The cottage was well presented and clean the garden was pleasant and sunny
