“Cottage very central to visit places”
Reviewed 9 July 2018 for a stay in July 2018

The booking was last minute but the cottage was fine clean tidy and larger than we expected from the photographs. Very central to get to places and if out for the day the Unicorn Inn has been revamped and they do say food good but we did not eat there once home.
Down side some new china would be lovely as only three plates bowls

“Beautiful cottage in a lovely location.”
Reviewed 1 June 2018 for a stay in June 2018

Having stayed in many cottages over the years in the area as my family live in Barnard Castle,I have to say hilltop cottage has been my favourite, the location is great, the cottage is stunning.
Upon arrival we arrived late Friday evening and the cottage was lovely and warm, a lovely touch to find biscuits and milk. The lovely courtyard garden is ideal to sit out on a evening, we were very lucky to have a good few days of hot weather.
Bedrooms are a real good size and I’ve never slept so well in the double room. Bathroom, is modern with a lovely large bath tub and shower.
Upon booking I booked for a Monday to Friday I loved it that much that I did inquire with Philip if we could stay longer, unfortunately other guests were coming. I will be booking to come again in the next few months. Thanks to Philip and Elaine for a lovely stay.

“Good”
Reviewed 15 February 2018 for a stay in February 2018

A convenient cottage in a quiet village next to the Pennine Way and near Barnards Castle. Easy parking, new kitchen & bathroom facilities and a nice little enclosed garden perfect for a dog.
Kind gifts of tea, milk & biscuits (also for dog) on arrival. Shame the place was freezing! Effective gas heater in kitchen tho and log burner(not cleaned) in sitting room. Had to buy more logs as only few provided. If you want a bath you may also need to increase the water temperature on the boiler.
Friendly village pub (Ancient Unicorn) with outstanding food in traditional old pub decor. Friendly well-intentioned owners of cottage too.

Thank you for the review of Hilltop Cottage. We do find it strange that you found the cottage 'freezing', as we stay over ourselves on a regular basis. There is of course a thermostat on the landing which can be adjusted to each holiday makers preference. Likewise, the water temperature can easily be increased on the boiler as you have said.
With regard to the log burner, these are not designed to be cleaned of all ash as they burn better with a thin layer of ash under the logs.
We provide a 'welcome pack' of coal and logs which is easily sufficient for a couple of nights.
We do encourage our quests to contact us if they have any problems but unfortunately we were not made aware of the above issues and were therefore unable to do anything about it.
We believe that the facilities at Hilltop are of the highest standards and we would always strive to resolve any problems our guests might have if we are given the opportunity.
