“Lovely spot for afternoon tea”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We popped in for a couple of sandwiches because most other places in Barnard Castle seemed to stop serving food at 3 but we were glad we did. The decor is very welcoming, staff were friendly and you didn't have to wait long for food. The sandwiches were ok but our 5 crisps each were stale. I think we picked unwisely as some of the cream teas, soups and salads looked far more tasty. Would definitely give it another try if back in the area

“Lovely place to unwind and fill my belly!”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

We got lost and ended up heading towards Durham... We took a turn off the A66 towards Barnards Castle - never heard of it before, parked and went looking for food! We went into Clarendons and were seated immediately, warmly greeted by very child friendly and happy staff. The food was lovely and we were very pleased we got lost! Would recommend this place to anyone :)

“Storm in a teacup”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

Having had a long day travelling drove into Barnard Castle, hoping for a nice pleasant early tea. What a disappointment. Came upon Clarendon's, which from the outside looked clean and fresh. once inside came the downfall, We were greeted I must say by a pleasant girl, who was clearing a table for us, which was nice of her to be so efficient, but as we were sitting down on the table which had just been cleaned an overwhelming smell, which I can only assume came from the cleaning cloth was how can I put it, was not nice, and lingered for a while, so after ordering drinks and perusing the menu, we decided to just have the drinks and leave, as a little worrying when tables are cleaned with dirty cloths, what could one expect from the cleanliness. I think we will give this one a miss.

“Pleasantly presented, sometimes lacking”
Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

Visited sevral times often for the cream tea which is makes a special treat ..
However today we went at around 4:00 and we're made to feel fairly akward as we were told they would need to check as the chef has cleaned up ....However we managed to get our cream teas...just wasn't the same when you feel like you've demanded them .

“Ok for coffee and cake”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Visited for coffee and cake. Perfectly acceptable although we did have to ask for hot water and wait around to pay the bill. Waitress was ok but not particularly pleasant.
I think there are better teashops to visit in Barnard Castle.
