We recently had a two night stay at this welcoming inn. The service was fantastic. The menu is inspirational and full of locally produced food choices, the meals when they are served more than live up to the menu description. As a party of four people the rooms were ideal and the hosts could not have looked after us any better. The entire weekend was a delight and quite simply the best food we have ever tasted.

We turned up late on a Friday night after a long drive up North for a wedding. Despite the late hour, Sarah and the team were extremely welcoming and provided service of the highest standard. The food was amazing and the daily specials board had us salivating over every word. The majority of us had 'The Italian Job' steak for our mains. It was the most delicious steak I've eaten in a long while and cooked to perfection. The desserts also looked delicious (although I was too full to partake) and I think this is the only pub I've visited that had Haribo for sale behind the bar!
Although we live a couple of hours drive away, we would definitely visit again should we be in the area.

This will be my shortest report ever as I have no critisism at all in spite of numerous visits, from a wonderful English breakfast (which in itself is difficult to obtain after church on a Sunday ). A light lunch of lovely homemade items and freshly squeezed orange juice to a tasty evening fayre with quality wine. All this plus excellent service and a real fire on cold winter days.

I stayed at The G & D Inn for 1 night but wish it had been more, we stayed on the winter special, which was great value.
The room was clean, warm and very comfortable.
I will be back, not just saying that.

I'm a bit reluctant to give this review; the Inn only has two rooms and we might not be able to get in again! A traditional Inn of considerable character matched with comfortable accommodation, an adventurous but tempting menu and excellent local ales. Combine this with a particularly friendly welcome and our stay was complete. Just don't tell too many people!

Room Tip: You'll be very lucky to get one!

Having visited Barnard Castle during the day a few weeks back we decided we would like to stay over night and see more - we could not get any accomodation in the town itself so we found The George and Dragon on the internet - the idea being it's only for one night, doesn't really matter if its not first class. As it turned out we hit the jackpot! Although only five minutes drive from Barnard Castle itself the Inn - which looks like a small old fashioned English pub - is in the middle of nowhere. We sat in the beer garden (having a beer) soaking up the sun and listened to the birds not the cars! The room was clean and of a good size and the bathroom was almot another room in itself. We learnt that both owners have experience in industry and are striking out on their own - Kevin is the chef and the food was far and above more expensive hotels. Plus there was a lovely friendly atmopshere in the place. I would recommend it to anyone and recommend they try it out before it really catches on ...!
