“Excellent Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

I read a few reviews whilst looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch and most were quite favourable.
On arrival we were greeted warmly by a very presentable young lady and shown to our table.
First impressions were that the room was spacious and light with comfortable seating.
Within minutes we were served our drinks whilst browsing the menu. There were other dishes besides Sunday roasts e.g. pheasant.
I chose the beef and my wife chose the pork. We ordered the regular size which, in my opinion, is plenty for someone with a normal appetite. Everything was cooked to perfection and we both agreed that the Yorkshire puds were probably the best that we had ever had beyond home and family. We were also given an extra jug of gravy, which is a nice touch.
On to puddings. For me, Creme Brulee and again superb, especially with the nice touch of a fresh berry pot, rasberries and shortbread. My wife chose the chocolate fudge cake which was big, delicious and unbelievably light.
Considering the quality of the food and service, the prices are very reasonable, including the drinks. We will definitely be returning even if we have to make a special trip.

“Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

After a 7.5mile walk around Romaldkirk and Cotherstone we finished up here for lunch. It was most enjoyable and has a pleasantly sited beer garden.

“Excellent food but poor, slow service.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

Visited for meal earlier this week but overall a disappointing experience. Service was very slow and poor, we were kept waiting 15 minutes before drinks order was taken despite being shown from the bar to a table. Only 2 bar staff/ waiters, one of whom a very inexperienced youth. Food when it eventually came was excellent but up to 20+ diners that evening waited far too long. I visited the Crown last year but sadly it has gone downhill in 2014 based on this evening.

“The Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

Called for a pre booked meal with our daughter and her boyfriend. Service was efficient and friendly and food excellent. The twice cooked beef was delicious and the star of the evening was the licorice and toffee ice cream.

Always worth a visit, then a few more.

“Did i miss something?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Ate here on recommendation, lovely place and most staff attentive, but the food was just disappointing, we had Barny bangers (2), tempura chicken and haddock and chips. At over £11 for each main, the value vs quality leaves wasn't worth it. Fish batter greasy and haddock very wet, likewise for the chicken in batter, which came with skinny chip and salad. Maybe we just chose badly but i've had much better pub grub. So if you visit, make an informed decision, perhaps they excel at the more adventurous menu items as oppose ro tue simple stuff, my view is the simple stuff should always be top draw. Oh and i dont like chips served in miniature arty farty metal baskets or food in bowls other than soup and cereals, bangers and mash in a bowl, come on........
