“Good Sunday lunch, if limited”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

We have been here a few times for Sunday lunch, I'm a meat eater and love a good roast, it has always been excellent with huge portions of great food and decent beer. Unfortunately the missus is a veggie and complains it is always the same thing (broccoli and pasta bake), good portions and nice but too samey for her, limited menu on Sunday but good all the same if you like a roast.

“Visit to High Force”
Reviewed 19 September 2013 via mobile

Visited high force to fill a few hours with my partner. It was a nice walk out and fairly cheap - £2 car park then £1.50 each per adult. However the hotel we decided to visit after for lunch was very poor. Very expensive for what was being offered and walked out without ordering - visit Egglestone Hall team rooms instead - 20 mins down the road.

“Dont Bother”
Reviewed 14 December 2012

We called into the High Force Hotel for a drink while out in upper Teesdale.
The staff were warm and friendly, but the meal was not. we arrived at lunch time to find the hotel quite empty, this should have been our first warning sign.
The food came to the table and looked about as appetsing as the road kill rabbits outside. Cold, gloopy and congealed on the plate. The staff plonked the plates on the table and walked away without asking if we required any further items. Hunger dictated we ate it as I was dubious about sending it back given the attitude of the staff.
The renge of drinks offered was not all the range but they do sell local brews and real ale from the high force brewery. DONT for your health and well being drink any. The water cascading over the falls looked more refreshing and probably tasted better. One of our party only just made it outside before being ill.
The scenery in the area is wonderful and the falls make a good photographic backdrop. so the area is well worth a visit, but eat in Middleton- in- teesdale before you get there.

The experience was also tainted slightly by the hotel charging to park your car to visit the falls, the locals said if you check the area map before you go therre is a path from the other side of the falls that allows you to get there from downstream without having to pay for parking. I found out too late.

“Great waterfall, but shocking hotel service”
Reviewed 7 July 2012

Our visit along the new walkway & enjoyment of the spectacular waterfall, river & forestry views was blighted by a visit to the Hotel opposite the entry path. We met the rudest host ever encountered. We had decided to have coffees, whilst we considered our lunch plans. The Hotel, in need of updating, was empty. One of our party of 6 ordered 2 coffes with milk & 4 black. The barman returned with 2 white & 2 black. When my friend politely asked for the other 2 coffees, the barman abruptly commented "You only asked for 4, make your mind up!". We thought it was a wind up & glanced around for cameras. Sadly it was not. Needless to say we moved on for lunch elsewhere - we did have a good laugh about it later. No wonder the place was empty.
