Visited here whilst on a short break in Barnard Castle. We hadn't booked a table but managed to get one even though the place was busy. Staff friendly and food was delicious with a complimentary dish given. Relaxing atmosphere and though it was busy we had the food in a timely manner with the staff asking if we were ready for each course. Definitely worth a visit if visiting the area.

The meal was for a group of us and we'd pre-booked, but on our arrival. staff seemed unaware of the booking and had to shuffle tables together. Service was not particularly welcoming, accomplished or swift - but it was generally willing. Food was very acceptable on a cold Friday night, and some dishes were actually very well prepared, and then much appreciated by some of the diners. The Cobra on draft got re-ordered as it was very refreshing, though the last re-order got forgotten. The room was very austere at the back of the restaurant (feels like an unloved add-on to the early takeaway aspirations) with tinny distant music from a sound system that neither added to the quality of the experience nor was so faint that it didn't impose on conversations. One vegetarian dish ordered came as a mushroom bhajee rather than an aubergine, but otherwise the communication coped pretty well. Took a very long time to settle the bill - as nobody returned to collect payment for over ten minutes - and so walked up to the front desk in the end as it had been too long a wait. No real sense of leadership, waiter team dynamic or determination to impress us were ever evident. Perhaps the service skills ethic needs a bit of taking by the neck? Looking forward to your comments, Geoff.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night. There were 2 adults and 2 kids in our party.
The food was very good but they did not have anything for kids and they wouldn't do half portions of the main meals which was disappointing.

The service was a bit slow, I asked 3 times for a wine list and twice for them to get it.

I am not sure if I would go back with children.
