Stopped on the way back from the Bowes Museum. The town of Barnard Castle is so lovely, and this was a couple of minutes drive from Bowes. It was a busy day with lots of traffic but we got parked fairly easily almost right outside, and parking was free.

We ordered some very nice draught ale, spiced butternut squash soup and a cheese sandwich from the wide selection on the menu, which came with vegetable crisps and a little side salad. All v tasty and reasonably-priced. Staff were lovely and we were seen to promptly.

We decided to have a meal here on our last day in Barnard Castle!

On a Monday they have an offer for 2 Steaks & a bottle of wine for £35, sadly my wife didn't want steak so didn't go for this :(

We had starters which were lovely, especially the Chorizo & Black Pudding salad!

Main courses, I had a Ribeye steak which was cooked beautifully, I had it with the blue cheese sauce which was mega! My wife had the Tomato Pasta with olives, not my cup of tea mind but she said it was delicious.

Service was prompt, food was really really tasty. Steaks are fairly pricey if you don't get the deal.

Overall very very good! We will be back

Came here on a spur of the moment decision. So glad we did. Ordered steak and ale pie and it was lovely. The chips were good, but the carrots were superb! I could have just eaten a plate of them on their own lol. Will definitely go again when we come back to this area. Oh and the beer was good too.

beautiful rom in the stables. I have stayed here in the main hotel previous and didn't even know this part existed. We were in a room and our friends were in the apartment downstairs which was also amazing. Clean bright modern and right in the centre is this hotel will definitely be returning

Called in late morning and enjoyed cappuccinos and scones and cream for just £3.50. The scones were amazing and enjoyed in the sunshine at the rear of the pub. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
