Been self catering for nearly 50 years, all over the UK, Swallows Nest has to be the best of all. So comfortable and on top of that a lovely hostess (Alison). Loads of things to do and fantastic countryside. If fate allows we will be back next year.

Swallows Nest was the perfect place for our short stay. Sadly we were only able to stay for 2 nights as it was already fully booked, but it suited our needs perfectly. An ideal meeting point for us and a couple of friends.

Cosy, comfortable and ideally situated with easy access from the north and south, and beautifully sited within the owners farm.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and rural retreat but with Durham and Newcaslte within easy reach......just perfect!

How wonderful! Thank you so much for your glowing review, it means such a lot to us. I agree, it was a shame that you weren't able to stay longer but as you say, it suited you for a couple of nights and we were glad to be able to help. We are ideally placed for so many places that visitors can see and do and the fact that guests can come back to a warm and comfortable cottage means that you can have the best of both worlds! Thank you again, Alison

Wonderful accommodation with electric movement leather armchair. One bedroom has on -suite wet room for disabled, bathroom on-site on second bedroom. Been to Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland. Had full day out at Beamish - a must for visitors - your payment ticket is valid for 12 months. Plenty variety of eateries for eating out. Had lovely time!

A beautiful, fully-equipped cottage surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Added bonus of each bedroom having a bathroom, plus a real fire in the cosy lounge! Alison took the trouble to contact us beforehand to see if we had any questions & was very helpful/friendly both on arrival & throughout our stay. Highly recommend & we look forward to a return visit. Also dog-friendly!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review and for your comments on our customer interaction, it helps us too as we get to know something about our guests before they arrive. The log fire is nice isn't it? We love ours on a cold autumn night, it makes the whole place really cosy. I am so pleased that you had a nice time and also look forward to seeing you again in the future. Thanks again, Alison

“Perfectly charming pet friendly holiday cottage”

The cottage has a rustic charm. It is fabulous. You will not need to bring a thing with you, its all there in this perfectly equipped cottage. The cottage has also been adapted for anyone with mobility issues which makes it much more inclusive, a lot of thought has gone into this. The location on the grounds of the working farm in an area called Low Lands is idyllic. Across the road is a vast area of common land with a fascinating history. We walked our dog for miles, she loved it and crashed out in front of the log burner each night. Alison and Keith were very accommodating, not at all intrusive and offered to take us around the farm. Two miles down the road we enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Sun Inn, very reasonable price, huge portions. Less than 15 minutes away Sainsburys and Tesco Extra made it an easy trip to stock up. There is a farm shop on the way to the shops, Broom Mill, worth a visit, lovely breakfast and the meat at the farm shop is excellent. We visited The Beamish Museum, Bowes Museum, High Force Waterfall and the drive over to Middleton in Teesdale was stunning. We will look forward to our next visit to Swallows Nest Cottage. Thanks again Alison & Keith.

Lovely cottage, made to feel very welcome by Alison and Keith and the kids loved looking round the farm and playing football with Glen (the sheepdog)! Being a wheelchair user access for me was great. We had a wonderful time not even the poor weather could spoil our holiday. Cannot fault, would love to come back

Thank you so much for your super review. We are really pleased that you had a fab stay and as you say, even the damp weather didn't stop you from enjoying the farm and the surrounding area! The cottage is as accessible to all as we can make it and we try very hard to ensure that every guest is as comfortable as they can be-I'm glad that we succeeded with you all too :) We would love you all to come again and look forward to a return visit in the future. Regards to you and your lovely family, Alison
