Description: Blagraves House is a charming historic 15th Century building. With its heavily beamed ceilings and large open fireplaces, it has been playing host to weary traveller and businessman alike for some 500 years. It has connections with Richard III. It is also recorded that Lieut. General Oliver Cromwell held Council here in 1648 were he was presented with burnt wine and oat cakes. Today our emphasis is on fresh food cooked to order using mainly local produce, accompanied with a comprehensive wine list and friendly unobtrusive service. So why not dine were Cromwell dined and experience the unique atmosphere of Blagraves House.

“Second visit, still excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

This is the second time we have visited Barnard Castle and the second time we have eaten at Blagraves House and we weren't disappointed. From the homemade savoury tartlet whilst you make your choice from the menu to the main course, we couldn't fault it. Food and service by Hilary was excellent. I'm sure we will be back.

“Lovely food in a delightful historic setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

Just got around to this as we went in January. Four of us had a lovely time and one of our party has a gluten allergy and this was accommodated with not trouble at all. Cheerful, friendly staff and great food. It was a little chilly (all that ancient stone) but an extra heater was provided and we were then fine. Thank you

“Can never fault it”

For a local, Blagraves is always a treat

This has got to be the best restaurant around, ok the indian restaurants get the top spot on tripadvisor but for the best quality traditional English cooking you will not get better

You get to sit by a open fire in a old beamed ceiling entrance room while you choose from menu. You are always served a homemade savoury tart with your drinks these are exceptional
The restaurant is upstairs in a very old beamed ceiling room

The beef Wellington is always my favourite and you will not get any better

Blagraves ..... Keep doing what your doing

“Great Value”

We went to dinner for our anniversay - what a treat. From the fire to sit round with your drinks to the beautiful dining room. Pauline and Hilary looked after us splendidly. The food was outstaning - what more can I say!

“Fabulous food”

Best meal we've had in ages - chicken curry tart and Beef Wellington were both fabulous. 15th century building is lovely - but could do with smartening up the downstairs a bit.
