We arrived at the restaurant and were shown to a cramped table in the corner by the window. The musty smell, cobwebs on the curtains and dead insects in the light fittings made us think we made a big mistake. This part of the restaurant really does need attention, even the ancient gargoyles outside the building wouldn't venture in this demoralising room. We viewed the menu and our senses were distracted from the aroma as our taste buds kicked in to action. After choosing our meal, we moved from the privvy corner to the more comfortable sofa. After a while we were shown upstairs to our table, in the main restaurant. This room was in complete contrast the the lounge below. Bright, airy and all together very pleasant. Not long after our meals arrived. WOW! The food was absolutely fantastic. My wife choose the vegatarian option and i had the lamb. We did not want the meal to end, the lamb was the best i have ever tasted and every time a portion of asparagus tartlet reached my wife's mouth it was accompanied with a "mmmmmm". Once our plates were licked clean we were soon eager to view the desert menu. We opted for the dark chocolate and amaretto desert. More "mmmmmmmm's" followed. All in all the food was amazing, the dining room great, the service was excellent, but the downstairs lounge was very poor.
