Booked the hotel through Secret Escapes for 2 nights. Upon arrival the receptionist was very pleasant & it was a nice touch being shown around the hotel personally. Our room was comfortable, clean with a small window with views over the car park. The pool is more of a plunge pool & the jacuzzi was out of order so we didn't use the spa. The conservatory was lovely to relax & take in the views with attentive bar staff. We ate in the bistro one night & the food was lovely, cooked to perfection & presented well, again staff were attentive. Breakfast both days gave a wide choice of food which we couldn't fault. Overall it is a lovely family-run hotel with the attention to detail that hotel chains miss & I'd love to return again!

We stayed at this hotel again and were not disappointed. As we booked the hotel on a Saturday afternoon just an hour before arriving, the only double room left was across the courtyard. It was excellent. There was a sofa, armchair, two televisions, and a large comfortable bed.
The hotel has spectacular views across the Eden Valley. There is a beautifully maintained garden with lots of outdoor seating. The views from the dining rooms and the conservatory are across the garden, over the small town and straight to the valley. Some of the bedrooms have this view if this is important to you.
The food and service cannot be faulted.
We are not spa people but it looks attractive.
If you want a relaxing hotel with excellent food and a very friendly atmosphere, this is for you.

Just returned from Appleby and what a fantastic hotel in all areas excellent staff nothing too much trouble, food was exquisite ate in restaurant and bistro, both delightful meals. We stayed in a garden room with fantastic views, it is so peaceful and nobody bothers you, plenty of lounge areas to sit in. Went for a swim in the pool which was lovely and warm. Would highly recommend this hotel just what we expected forget the other reviews as we have no complaints and we are fussy! We will definitely return, as the service is fantastic as you would expect in such a beautiful hotel!

My Husband and I got a very good spring break deal at this hotel. I'd booked a standard room. As I have disabilities I'd asked for a ground floor room. when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who took us on a tour of the hotel and then took us to our room. we were delighted to find that we had a free upgrade to a Garden Room, which as it sounds ,overlooked the hotels gardens and had a patio area.

The room was lovely and well equipped with everything you would expect in a 4* star hotel, a range of tea and coffee , a hair drier, a small ironing board and iron. The hotel has its own water bore hole and we had a bottle of their own water with an old fashioned top like you used to get on Ginger beer.

At night we ate in the restaurant. before we sat down at the table we were invited into the conservatory for pre-dinner drinks (we paid) and canapés whilst the waiter took our order. The food was fine dinning, what I call 'Master chef' Food. Once seated the waitress came round with a demi-tasse of pea soup compliments of the chef. The soup was delicious.. Again we had a deal for a 3 course meal for £30 per head, instead of over £40. We both had marinated Mackerel for starters, then I had the most beautiful, soft, tender venison I've ever had. I finished off with a white chocolate cheesecake with dark chocolate sauce and Palma Violet ice cream in a brandy basket . We went and sat in the lounge for coffee which was brought with truffles and Turkish delight. It was these little touches that made the weekend for us.

The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and there was a wide choice. In the afternoon we had a voucher to get a fruit meringue and a glass of Prosecco which we indulged in. At the same time we'd ordered coffee and this came with homemade biscuits.

The staff couldn't do enough for us. They made us feel special. The hotel was quiet, genteel and incredibly relaxing. I would most definitely go again

We spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a good welcome, a comfortable room with a beautiful outlook and a lovely, relaxed dinner. Breakfasts were lavish and the service there, at dinner and in the bar was friendly and attentive. We'll be back.
