We have been at Beachcomber Guest House for a two night stay mid of September 2012. The reason was a short weekend trip to the south coast of Great Britain and especially a visit of the Jurassic Coast Area between Swanage and Weymouth.
Due to the fact that we didn't find a hotel in this area we decided to stay in a guest house or B&B. As well the prices of the local hotels have been to high and it was much to expansive to book a double room for two nights.
So we found this small guest house at the internet and it looked very well. Small rooms but including en-suite facilities and a breakfast for an acceptable price (about 80€ per night).
The guest house itself is located at one of the beachside streets of Weymouth and there are about 8 guesthouses in the street/in a row. So if you stay in front you will see about 8 entrances to different guest houses.
Inside we had a warm welcome by the owner of the guest house. Our room was on the second floor and on the backside of the building. The room itself was about 10sqm and inside there were:
-- two single beds
-- a small tv-screen in one corner
-- one chair next to the door
-- a dresser between the two beds
-- a small wall cupboard
-- and one window to the backside
The en-suite bathroom was so small that only one person has space to stay inside. About 2,5sqm for a shower cabin, a toilet and a basin. Really no space for two persons or to move inside - but enough to get refreshed and to feel comfortable for two nights.
So in total a small room with all needed facilities but with no space for suitcases or personal belongings for more than 2 nights.
The breakfast is typical british - incl. tea or coffee, orange juice, baked beans, sausages, bacon, eggs, baked potatoes and (for sure) toast. It is served by the owner and his wife between 08:30AM and 09:00AM. Both are very cute and friendly. And if you ask for special wishes e.g. hot chocolate or scrambled eggs, they will serve it.
The breakfast room is one the ground floor, directly next to the main entrance of the guest house and you have a view to the street in front. As well the room is very small and there only tables for 2 persons - due to the fact that they only offer double or single rooms.
Due to the fact, that we arrived by car, we asked for a parking area. On the backside of the hotel the guest house uses the old garden as a parking field for about 6 cars. All cars have to be parked in 2 rows and during breakfast you will be asked, if you will move/use your car during the day. If not you will be asked to park your car in the back so that other guests can arrive or leave. A simple system that works ;-)
Summary: a small but friendly guest house with small rooms and a very good breakfast. For a weekend or a short stay very good, for holidays to small and to simple. And if you compare the price with German hotel prices you may will say that 80€ are to expansive for this service.
At least we enjoyed our stay and we would come back and stay again!!
