“Small and typical british guest house”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2012

We have been at Beachcomber Guest House for a two night stay mid of September 2012. The reason was a short weekend trip to the south coast of Great Britain and especially a visit of the Jurassic Coast Area between Swanage and Weymouth.

Due to the fact that we didn't find a hotel in this area we decided to stay in a guest house or B&B. As well the prices of the local hotels have been to high and it was much to expansive to book a double room for two nights.

So we found this small guest house at the internet and it looked very well. Small rooms but including en-suite facilities and a breakfast for an acceptable price (about 80€ per night).

The guest house itself is located at one of the beachside streets of Weymouth and there are about 8 guesthouses in the street/in a row. So if you stay in front you will see about 8 entrances to different guest houses.

Inside we had a warm welcome by the owner of the guest house. Our room was on the second floor and on the backside of the building. The room itself was about 10sqm and inside there were:

-- two single beds
-- a small tv-screen in one corner
-- one chair next to the door
-- a dresser between the two beds
-- a small wall cupboard
-- and one window to the backside

The en-suite bathroom was so small that only one person has space to stay inside. About 2,5sqm for a shower cabin, a toilet and a basin. Really no space for two persons or to move inside - but enough to get refreshed and to feel comfortable for two nights.

So in total a small room with all needed facilities but with no space for suitcases or personal belongings for more than 2 nights.

The breakfast is typical british - incl. tea or coffee, orange juice, baked beans, sausages, bacon, eggs, baked potatoes and (for sure) toast. It is served by the owner and his wife between 08:30AM and 09:00AM. Both are very cute and friendly. And if you ask for special wishes e.g. hot chocolate or scrambled eggs, they will serve it.
The breakfast room is one the ground floor, directly next to the main entrance of the guest house and you have a view to the street in front. As well the room is very small and there only tables for 2 persons - due to the fact that they only offer double or single rooms.

Due to the fact, that we arrived by car, we asked for a parking area. On the backside of the hotel the guest house uses the old garden as a parking field for about 6 cars. All cars have to be parked in 2 rows and during breakfast you will be asked, if you will move/use your car during the day. If not you will be asked to park your car in the back so that other guests can arrive or leave. A simple system that works ;-)

Summary: a small but friendly guest house with small rooms and a very good breakfast. For a weekend or a short stay very good, for holidays to small and to simple. And if you compare the price with German hotel prices you may will say that 80€ are to expansive for this service.

At least we enjoyed our stay and we would come back and stay again!!

Stayed here in single room for 2 weeks. Owners were lovely, polite and friendly. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked which did make the service rather slow, not a problem if you are on holiday (which I wasn't ). Biggest problem was the lack of soundproofing. The wall between my room and the next was paper thin and I could hear every word spoken next door. There is no double glazing because it is a listed building so if you need the window open (it's a very small room) the road noise can mean very little sleep. Location is good, short walk to town and bus stop outside. There is a car park but it means leaving your car key in your room so the owners can shuffle cars about when needed. Unfortunately you do not always get the key back immediately.
Overall I would possibly return but only to a double room at the back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. Single rooms very small.

I have just returned from a pleasant 4 night stay at the Beachcomber Guest House in Weymouth.
Continently located within easy walking distance of the town centre and away from the hustle and bustle of Weymouth and just about opposite the beach at one end of town.
Off road parking which was excellent as the town is all pay and display
The owners are very helpful and very accommodating
The breakfast is very good.
Single room with on-suit facilities was fine. Cleaned and tided on a daily basis and a good level.
The Guest House is on the main road that runs through Weymouth A535, so there is quite a lot of traffic noise. The sash window didn’t really block out all the noise and it wasn’t feasible to leave the window open at night due to the traffic noise.
Otherwise I would recommend this Guest House

Just returned from a three night stay at the beachcomber with my husband. The couple who own it made us feel very welcome. The room we stayed in was a twin room, the beds were very comfortable, the rooms spotlessly clean (a big plus) and we couldn't fault the breakfasts which were varied and cooked to perfection. The only down side for us was that the accommodation was too far from the town (I have to walk with a stick) and this would deter us from booking again. If you are fit and able to walk the distance to the town I would thoroughly recommend a stay here and while staying here if you like a chinese meal try the Sea View across the road from the guest house our meal was fabulous. Thanks to Pat and hubby for a very nice break.

The rooms are spotless and the breakfasts were excellent. I found Pat and Ray to be friendly and professional, and I felt safe and the bed was comfortable. The location is good, right on the beach front. I was lucky enough to have brilliant weather as an added bonus!

Stayed here several weeks ago for a 3 night stay. Arrived in Weymouth fairly early and spoke rang up to ask when we could check in. Pat the owner said 12 noon, this was fine with us. We arrived at 12 noon, checked in no issues and parked our car round the back in the free private car park. We were allocated room 8 which is on the top floor, being young and fit this was not an issue.3 nights stay was fine, being in room 8 meant we shared a toilet/shower with room 7 next door to us on the landing. Room 7 was vacant, but it was a little frustrating having to remember to keep the latch on so you didnt lock yourself out after using the toilet! Also being on the top floor and it being in the summer did make it a VERY warm room, but also very quite as you are away from other guests and from the main road traffic noise.
Breakfast was between 8:30am - 9am. We got down at 8:30am. As its done to order if other guests have ordered beofre you theres a slight wait, only 10/15 mins. I would recommend that if you are in hurry to get out to go down slightly early at around 8:20/8:25am to get your cooked breakfast order in first so you arent waiting for other guests orders. Breakfast was lovely, not greasy. The was the choice of cereals and toast if you didnt want that, if you were hungry you could have all 3!
Overall a nice place to stay, the owners made a point of knowing our names and addressing us by this at breakfast. A nice personal touch I thought. I would definately stay again, however I would request a room on a lower floor purely because I want a room that actually has the toilet/bathroom in it and not on the landing.

Room Tip: Request a room on a lower floor

We stayed for 4 nights in August. The location is excellent 10 mins walk from the harbour and the beach is right on the doorstep, albeit at the farther end from town. Room was small, bathroom very small but shower worked fine. Room was on the main road and was thus very noisy early in the morning. Maid had left our room unlocked all day one day, thankfully nothing came of this. Breakfast was adequate although service quite slow.
