“Brilliant stay - great location and friendly staff”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

In a last minute panic was thankful to have somewhere to stay for a wedding in Weymouth. The Esplanade is great - the room had brilliant sea views and a balcony (I did struggle a bit to open the sash windows, but a drink out on the balcony in the sun made it well worth the effort!). The room had everything needed and was a good size. I slept better than at home! The owner Rob was lovely - very welcoming and happy to help with any questions and point me in the right direction to get to the wedding. There are 9 parking spaces which was a definite bonus - they involve a bit of organisation in the morning so everyone can get out, but a chat at breakfast and a clever written plan soon had that sorted. Overall a lovely stay in a place with character and a friendly welcome.

Having given up hope of finding value for money accomodation in Weymouth on a busy weekend, up popped the Esplanade .
Without dought the jewel in Weymouth, s crown.
The accomodation was very good, clean and tidy.
There was a nice lounge area overlooking the sea with an "honesty bar".
The breakfast is without dought the best I've ever had

Although just for 1 day (Sat-Sun), we enjoyed our stay in Weymouth a lot. Staff was very nice and helpful, rooms clean and comfortable. Location right next to beach, train station and city centre is a very big plus.

We booked the accommodation on the internet not knowing the area but wanting a seaside location.
Firstly from the internet the property appeared to me to be a hotel but it is about a 12 room B&B over 3 levels and part of a lovely Georgian building with a huge esplanade frontage. The only issue with the location is that out front is a busy road. Otherwise it was magnificent facing east with beautiful, expansive Weymouth bay just across the road.
Our rooms were on the 2nd floor. We had 2 large windows facing Pier Bandstand building then the bay. Rooms were bigger than usual hotel ones with an ensuite in a corner. Furnishings etc were 1970's, dusty but there was plenty of furniture, cupboards etc. Only real problem was broken sash cords in windows but they could be wedged open. Ensuite was a bit unusual. A bath took up half the area & a very small modern hand basin was fitted. A unique feature was a spy hole in the ensuite door created by removal of an old lock & not filling in the hole.
The room cleaners were school kids & didn't have much idea. We didn't get obvious items like toiletries resupplied until we rang up.
Breakfasts were generally first class. Another unusual feature was the couple who owned the business weren't there other than Rob Cole who cooked breakfast but didn't come into the dining room and his wife who waited on the breakfast tables 2 of the 5 days & she was excellent. They were contactable by phone though.
Overall impression was property suited our purposes but it was not a 4 star as advertised.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay (again) at the Esplanade Hotel. The rooms were very well presented and maintained, the breakfast was first class and served by very smart and pleasant staff also, congratulations to the cook ( Rob the owner ) for providing an excellent and substantial meal.

I highly recommend this hotel to one and all and my wife and I can make no greater compliment than to say we have booked again for next year.

Many congratulations to Rob and his staff.

A very warm welcome and a relaxing atmosphere. Good location and friendly owners and staff. We soon felt at home here and in fact decided to stay n extra night. The breakfast was excellent as was the choice of local drinks in honesty bar. It's nice to stay in a hotel in which the owners clearly take pride and who want their guests to be happy.

Room Tip: We liked room 3 with sea view and balcony
