“Spa Pamper Days”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

What a wonderful day, in a wonderful hotel with wonderful service and a fabulous therapist. You really have to see Monnfleet to appreciate how unique this hotel is. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left there was nothing to be other than totally positive.

The choice of menu for lunch was wonderful and the standard and quality of the food was excellent. The treatments were amazing and were carried out in fabulous rooms by a fabulous therapist. The cost for the whole day included everything as to me was so reasonably priced, as local to the area I really would highly recommend the Spa days to any one local or not, in fact part of me wishes I wasnt local to the area so that I could book into the hotel !!!!! Thank you Moonfleet for a fabulous day - Jackie Spurr

I stayed here with my wife and our toddler and baby for one night (as a celebration for my wife's birthday) and we all enjoyed it very much. I had been slightly worried having read some previous reviews but we thought it was great. We were in one of the luxury family rooms on the first floor and we were very happy with it. Overall it's got more of a real manor house feel to it than other more generically-refurbished hotels I guess, The food was excellent, as was all of the service. It's very expensive but I felt it was worth it for the overall quality of stay and certainly for a special occasion. As a nice contrast it's also the kind of place that has a selection of wellies in all different sizes in the hall by the front door in case you need some for a walk along the coast.
Note - It might not be for you if you hate the occasional ancient stuffed animal as decoration!

We'll hopefully go back again as 1 day was not nearly enough time to enjoy all of what the hotel has to offer.

We spent 2 days at Moonfleet Manor for my husband's birthday and had a wonderful time. The house itself is lovely with big comfy sofas and wonderful fires in the evening. The food is really delicious and there is so much for the kiddies to do. My 8,6 and 2 year old girls loved it, especially the big sports hall with tennis, pool, trampolines and toy and of course the pool. Staff were attentive and the whole atmosphere is very laid back. Yes its very expensive, especially the food and drink but the quality is good also, just beware of your final bill! A word of warning you have to ring a central reservations line to book the hotel and I was given some misinformation when booking in regards to charges and what the package I took included. This was sorted quickly by the hotel when I came to pay the bill with no problem and hopefully they will look into how the central office sells the hotel and align their messaging. Apart from that, I would recommend the place and hope to go back in the near future.

We spent our anniversary at the Moonfleet Manor Hotel. The location was fantastic and the bed so comfortable we slept through the alarm. The food was very good although a little slow. The lounges with the big fires were great. Loved Snoopy the dog and although it is a family orientated hotel we did not find this a problem. We will definitely return.

My wife and I have two small children. We spent a few days at Ickworth House (part of the same group) back in July. That experience was fantastic, with our 4-year old daughter in tears because she didn't want to leave. So when it came for another short break, we decided to choose another hotel in the same chain. Unfortunately the experience wasn't to the same level. The hotel has all the potential to be amazing (it is indeed a stunning location), but seems to miss on a number of levels; attention to detail and better customer service/awareness being probably the two main ones - and in this regard ties in with some of the comments previously posted. Also having some money thrown at it would also help a great deal! The food (and restaurant experience) was probably the best part of the stay - and this I would recommend...the restaurant staff and food were very good. The hotel room (we stayed in one of the coach houses) was nice, but again not special given the 'luxury' branding. In summary - Same about Moonfleet....we will go back to Ickworth next year!

Dear Glenn F,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor.

Firstly, thank you for coming to Moonfleet in the first place, we were delighted to meet you and your family. Please be assured that we are continually looking to improve and your comments give us tangible areas to look at in this pursuit.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your Restaurant experience - the treat at the end of the day for busy an tired parents - so thank you for recognising that.

After many years of neglect under a previous ownership, we have embarked on a significant refurbishment programme and the Hotel will benefit from a swathe of new facilities and room upgrades as a continuous programme rolls on. We have already made changes to public areas, bedrooms, our treatment rooms and pool changing facilities, so please do keep posted on our progress via our facebook page.

We do look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards

My wife and I stayed at Moon fleet with our two year old daughter for two nights in September 2013. From the moment we walked into the hotel we were made to feel especially welcome. We were warmly welcomed by Dawn the manager, She was exceptionally engaging with our daughter and put us all at ease within a few moments of being at the hotel. The Hotel has a wonderfully relaxed feel to it, the theme of the communal areas was followed through to our room, and whilst being slightly tired in appearance it did not matter to our stay and both the hotel and room carried a certain charm and had a great feel to them. The facilities for young children are perfect and I also enjoyed kicking a few drop goals in the grounds myself! The staff were excellent with our daughter and I could not fault any one of them. Finally this brings me to the best bit the food, absolutely fantastic, every course we had was superb, full of flavour and varied. The restaurant manager was exceptional. Thank you to everyone at Moonfleet we had a super break.

Whilst staying with family in Chickerall we decided to walk the coast path and pop in to the Moonfleet for a coffee as a mid point break. I explained to the receptionist that we weren't staying at the Manor and asked if we could still buy a coffee. I also asked if we could bring our dog in. She was very quick to snap "we'll you have to go in the lounge as it can't go in the restaurant". I replied of course and asked for directions which were provided in an equally intolerant tone. We sheepishly made our way to the lounge not really feeling very welcome and a waitress advised us to take a seat and she would ensure someone came to take our order shortly. After over 25mins of patiently waiting we took the hint that we weren't welcome and decided to leave, passing reception on our way out we weren't even acknowledged. I've heard the locals don't rate this place highly as it thinks too much of itself and having experienced the cold shoulder today clearly not fitting in with the "Hooray Henry" clientel they so desperately seek can see why.

Dear boogieknights,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on tripadvisor. Naturally, I am very disappointed to hear when anyone who visits us receives anything less than a great experience.

As you can see from other reviews, your experience is just not a common occurrence and is very out of character. We pride ourselves on offering unfussy but attentive and friendly service to everyone who makes the trip to Moonfleet, whether that be a 2 mile or a 200 mile journey.

Might I suggest that you revisit the Hotel, or give me a call, making yourself known to us by your Tripadvisor identity and we can discuss your experience further.

Kind regards

Neil
