5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014

we've been to Moonfleet several times since my last review in 2012 (with 2 boys ages 6 and 2) and felt we had to upgrade to full marks!! Rooms (in the main house)/ food/ service have always been excellent but the investment/ thought that's gone into the changes make it even better. Weather was truly awful when we stayed but the kids don't notice with the Verandah (with toys/ games/ equipment all upgraded), pool (changing facilities now top notch), creche (they love the staff) and little touches like the movie nights, walking the dog, great kids food etc etc. Enough gushing. In an ideal world the room rates would be cheaper but I guess that you get what you pay for?

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house have high ceilings and the real character

Just back from a very windy and wet 2 days at the Moonfleet with our 21 month old but enjoyed every minute to the extent im reluctant to sell its virtues in case its booked for when we wish to return ! From the moment you arrive its welcoming and cosy, lit fires in the communal lounges and staff all happy to help but the real draw is the fact its so kiddie friendly, the hotel dog, Snoopy, has the patience of a saint and theres walls dedicated to kids drawing of the poor mite. Rooms were good, we went for the family deluxe which was actually 2 interconnecting rooms and a generous size, yes the bathrooms need a little updating but dont let this detract from a hotel that excels at service and doesnt leave you fearful of a toddler induced meltdown or a tumble down marble stairs into hushed showcase lounges as you would in some more stiffer hotels. Decor is eclectic but it works well with the surroundings and everything about the place shouts out 'relax and breathe'. Creche facilities very good, huge room with attentive staff and very safety/security conscious. Pool is an ok size for the venue with spotless changing rooms. Theres a large games barn which accomodates all manner of sports but the converted indoor bowls green that now serves as a soft play area come indoor football pitch was just perfect for kids off all ages and it looks like this week they were putting finishing touches to a climbing wall aimed at the 5-12 bracket i'd say. Surrounding area is beautiful with access to the Fleet river. There is no direct access to the beach but the sandy beach of Weymouth isnt far nor the wild coastline of Chesil. Restaurant was really good and again great for kids, they serve high tea to feed the little ones early in a very relaxed environment and then provide a child listening service if you wish to dine alone, if not kids are welcome till 7 in the main restaurant which provided some very very good standard of food, our only regret with the food? we didnt turn the page till the last night to discover another whole page of the menu...reason enough to go back. We went out of school holidays so it was quiet, i imagine in school holidays its a whole different ball game but they have the air of confidence that nothing is ever a problem. Negatives: would have liked a gym for adults, restaurant has no music which meant i had to engage in conversation with the missus... whatever next... Positives: Kiddie and pet friendly but that doesnt mean it detracts or cheapens what is a very cosy, welcoming venue perfect for a 2 or 3 night break. Make use of the creche for a couple of hours to get some me time in the spa or just relaxing with a pint of local brew.

Room Tip: Rooms above the restaurant means your baby listening monitor works (we used the reception listening...

Quite simply this is a perfect family getaway if you've got young children and you want to make sure you ALL get some relaxation and fun. We have two girls, one is 5 and the other just about to turn 2. Form the minute you arrive you know this is different. Reception is tucked away so it's not a focal point of the hotel allowing it to keep the feel of a manor house. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and excellent with children. Snoopy, the resident dog, puts up with the pokes and pulling of young children without complaint which just makes the kids love him more. It was all part of an experience where the children had a ball, not just in the large indoor, well equipped play area, or the pool but also in the creche (which is free for 2 hours a day) and at Sunday morning breakfast club - the staff actually knock on your door and take the children to breakfast giving parents a rare opportunity for a leisurely start to the day. For us it was the first time in 5 years we'd been able to sit down and eat breakfast while reading the papers, for the kids it was a wild adventure - my older daughter said breakfast club was her favourite part of the whole stay - but she enjoyed every minute of it and so did we. We explored the winding corridors together, nearly got blown over looking at Chesil Beach, played surprisingly competitive games of air hockey and while my husband had a swim with the children I hid myself away in the sauna.

We had one of their standard rooms (Lady Noble). But it was anything but standard. The bed was huge, easily large enough for us to sleep in with our 2 year old tucked up in the middle. Our other daughter had a roll away bed which was comfy. There was a large TV and DVD player - there's a library of DVDs in the entrance area so there's always something to watch. If you want a better viewing experience there's a cinema room downstairs which shows 2 films a night but we were told if it wasn't busy we could put on any film we liked - but we simply didn't have time!! The rooms are large and comfortable and anything but corporate. There was a big bath with piping hot water and an eclectic collection of furniture. None of it is new, but we wouldn't want it that way. the furniture was part of the house and it helped you feel like a house guest rather than a hotel guest. In fact the whole house feels more like a home than a hotel. It's not the kind of corporate perfection you'd find in a hotel which is part of a huge chain, if that's what you're looking for then this probably isn't the place for you. If, however, you like quirky rooms filled with interesting objects and pictures, furniture that feels it has as many stories to tell as the house and staff that are attentive and friendly without being in your face then this probably is for you. It is an escape, you emerge yourself in the house, in the area and in the folklore (there's plenty of tales of smuggling and derring do and one famous novel called Moonfleet which features the manor as a central part to the story). The weather was rotten, we didn't go out much but we didn't really need to. One word of caution, food and drinks can be pricey and there's no system of signing so it can be tricky to keep a tab on spending but that would be my only (slightly) negative comment.

If you've bothered to read this far then you probably like the sound of Moonfleet Manor, as a Mum of two young ones who is often hassled and dreams of a rest, I have no hesitation in recommending a break at Moonfleet Manor. The whole family returned home refreshed and invigorated and planning our next stay.

We spent two nights at Moonfleet during the dullest, wettest January week and had a lovely time. The atmosphere is chilled country house, and it feels like a really nice family home - beautiful, comfortable and totally unstuffy. Jessie the collie was made to feel very welcome too. Food excellent, great log fires, walks and lots to do (not that we managed much exercise apart from a pre-dinner swim in the heated pool). Best of all are the first-class staff. We'll be back!

I stayed for a night at the Moonfleet with my wife and twin 21 month old daughters and I have to say it was a superb experience. After arriving it felt that were treated like family visitors rather than hotel clients. We were shown to a large family room where 2 cots had been already placed. The room had bags of character and it was a joy to stay there. We wish we could have spent the week.

We went exploring and found plenty to occupy our girls, from the large play area (used to be an indoor bowling green) to walks overlooking Chesil beach and then back to a swim in the pool which was warm and very suitable for young and old.

After a tiring day, our girls were settled down to sleep, we set the phone up for baby listening and went down to the restaurant. My wife was really wary about doing this as it's not something we've done before, but with the baby listening and our regular checks as well as our trust in the Moonfleet staff she soon relaxed.

After a drink in the comfortable lounge near the fire and a browse through the superb wine list we went in for dinner where we experienced top class service and exquisite food. The standard of the cuisine here really is high.

Breakfast too after a comfortable sleep was superb and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

My wife and I had visited the crèche the day before to fill in the relevant forms and used the service on our final day. The girls loved it there. The crèche staff were amazing with them and it was well stocked with loads to keep them occupied. They are very sociable girls anyway but they, and we felt very comfortable there.

All in all, I can't recommend Moonfleet Manor highly enough and we will definitely be returning. Next time for longer I hope.

We arrived to celebrate our anniversary with 2 very excited children 2 and 4. In the pitch black and the fog we walked into a beautiful lounge with a roaring fire and enjoyed a much needed glass of bubbly stuff. Our room was very spacious with an enormous comfy bed. The following morning we woke to the most amazing views. Breakfast was delicious and the walk straight from the hotel to The Elm pub was great. The kids loved the play barn and the pool and we LOVED the crèche. The cocktails were yum, the food was great and the staff friendly. All in all a great break and we will be back. X

As a busy professional mother when the weekend comes not only am I exhausted but the house is a mess. What better way then to re-cooperate, relax, re-vitalise than spending a night at Moonfleet Manor. It really is the most welcoming, comfortable and relaxing environment- a home from home without the mess!
The staff are amazing- nothing is too much trouble, the facilities are great- everything you need is there, and the food is truly delicious.
We usually arrive after lunch, have a breath taking walk by the water and across the fields, then have a swim and sauna, before having pre-dinner drinks and playing games with the children in the amazingly equipped activities centre( tennis/table tennis/football./table football/air hockey etc). We then unwind over some well chosen wine and a lovely dinner.

This hotel positively welcomes children, and very much caters for them.

As you might have guessed Moonfleet is always my first choice and I have no hesitation recommending it.
