Owner description: Weymouth Sand Sculpture Festival aka Sandworld is a seasonal attraction set within Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth - next door to the SeaLife Centre, and next to a large car and coach park. Sandworld is an all weather attraction created by local artists to showcase the talents of International and UK Sand Sculptors undercover in a huge marquee. There is a large covered sand pit. Visitors are encouraged to "have a go" at sandsculpting having been inspired by what they have seen. It is sometimes possible to engage with artists as they work on new pieces which are added to the site from time to time, and always possible to relax with a drink, snack or icecream at the on site cafe. Activities such as filling sand bottles are available at extra cost, and a gift shop completes the experience where you can buy a postcard of your favourite sculpture or a souvenier of your visit. The attraction has a link to Weymouths long tradition of Sand Sculpting, as Mark Anderson - co-founder of Sandworld - is the grandson of Fred Darrington, who began sculpting on Weymouth beach back in the 1920's. Mark is an International Master in his own right, and can often be found in the sandpit at Sandworld helping aspiring sculptors - young and old - to engage in this most therapeutic of activities. Length of visit times varies widely depending on the individual or groups' level of interest and/or engagement with the art, and of course the weather (although most of the exhibits are undercover, a visit in November will not be the same as a visit in August). Some visitors stay 10 minutes, some stay all day, either way is cool. All are welcome at Sandworld - please come and see us! Open between Easter and Halloween

Dont listen to the 'dissapointing' review. I too am local and took our godchildren over half-term! This is a local guy doing his best to set up a medium sized visitor attraction and he should be applauded for it! I am sure he will continue to progress things but even now its a great attraction, not only to see the stunning sand carvings but for the kids to have some fun in the sand pits which are massive! The entire team were totally engaged and clearly loving working there. the kids loved the quiz to spot characters around the displays! All in all definitely well worth a visit!

Thankyou for the review, and encouragement, we appreciate the support of "locals" as well as "visitors" to the area. We often hear "but we see it for free on the beach" but when people visit, they say "wow" and realise that the work we have on show at Sandworld is different, unique, huge and amazing. Something that Weymouth should be proud of, as it builds on a 100 year old tradition of sand sculpting in the town, a town we like to call the "Home of British Sandsculpting". We will again be selling cut price season tickets to locals in The Echo next Easter, look out for this offer, it is great value.

Well worth a visit if your in the area to witness some of the fantastic creations on show. Some really great pieces to see although the price is a bit steep.

I took my 5 year old daughter to Sandworld on Saturday 2nd of November and we had a fantastic time. The staff are extremely friendly and my daughter particularly enjoyed story time with the wicked witch Vicky!

The sculptures are amazing, simply stunning. My daughter and I spent the best part of an hour just walking around admiring the assortment of different works.

After we had looked at all of the sculptures, we spent some time in the huge sandpit creating our own sculptures, which was delightful. We had some help from one of the knowledgable staff who helped us make a scary halloween sand pumpkin!

All in all, the two of us had a great time together here. A great way to spend our afternoon. Will definitly be back at easter to see the new sculptures.

Thank James H

Visited sand world today. We are locals. No one on reception. had to wait several minutes for someone to attend to us. 6 . 50pds for adults Is very expensive in our opinion. Great sculptures but nothing else to do for free. One of our party was 3 so unable to do sand pit with his sisters. We were out within 30 mins and that included making sand models which was 3 pds each. Doubtful we would return to this place. Such a shame.

So sorry you did not enjoy your visit, there is no excuse for being kept waiting at reception, we apologise for this, as this probably set the tone for the rest of your time with us, resulting in this Tripadvisor review, the first you have ever made. We regard to the "have a go" area, we have learned through experience that children under 5 understandably just want to jump on the sand sculptures, so we set aside a seperate play are for them, with a wendy house and push along cars etc. This week we have had a free to enter sand pumpkin carving competition. We have also had free story telling sessions with our resident witch, which children of all ages have been loving. Depending on the time of day of your visit of course. Sandworld is really all about the sand sculptures - over the last few days we have been carving a Sand Witch for Halloween - it is a place to come and view and appreciate the work of some of the best sculptors in the world, brought to Weymouth for your enjoyment. We cannot expect everyone who visits us to fully appreciate what they are looking at, but they are as good as you will ever see, anywhere in the world.

We went to visit this attractions as my sister loves Sci-fi! We were pleasantly surprised at how large and detailed the sculptures were, we spent a good 30/40mins looking around even though it is quite small. Some of the sculptures did have damage but they had been there since Easter so is understandable. Would love to go back next year at the start and see them freshly made.
