Following last year’s re-launch, the evening menu is established now with a good range of dishes, many quite inexpensive – it’s the sort of well-balanced enticing menu you look at and think yes, I’d be very happy with any of the choices. Our starters of fillet of mackerel were wonderfully tasty. The hake with risotto was delicious, although arguably there was a little too much risotto in proportion to the fish and the presentation was a tad untidy. My artisan pie was excellent, and the accompanying roast vegetables perfectly judged. The group’s executive chef, Luciano, was away overseeing the opening weeks of their sister establishment in Poole, but he can be proud of the way in which the Nothe’s chefs are delivering his menu. Front of house was efficient too. The décor is pleasing enough, but while the lounge area and the bar are welcoming, the restaurant area lacks character, not helped perhaps by the regimented ranks of tables.
