An absolutely shocking experience all round. We had pre-booked as a large party of 20 to celebrate the joining of 2 families and reminisce about the wedding the day before. Instead of a lovely family meal out, our experience at The Sunray left a thoroughly bad taste in our mouths and tainted what had been a wonderful weekend.

On arrival we were relegated to the back room and promptly forgotten about. No waiting service was offered, despite the size of our party and a polite request for someone to take our orders. Most of our party opted for the carvery which was mediocre at best - the meat was reasonably good but the vegetables were clearly frozen rather than fresh and other accompaniments were out of a packet. But at least those of us got fed. The remainder of the party were left waiting at least half an hour with meals turning up sporadically. Two of the meals that eventually turned up had to be sent back - one for being stone cold and the other, supposedly a foot long hotdog, for being half the advertised size. Two other meals didn't turn up at all, despite frequent follow ups with the staff. As a result we ended up cancelling several of the meals leaving a number of our party extremely hungry.

Most disappointing of all was the way the staff, and in particular the manager - and "chef" - handled the whole situation. Complete and utter disregard for their customers, with no ownership taken and no apology made. Not even an attempt to apologise for our shocking experience - the only response offered was that it was 'no one's fault' and that 'these things happen'.

In case my advice isn't already clear... DON'T GO. EVER.

Visited here with my wife and two daughters whilst on holiday.
What a Shock!
We came here more than once 3 years ago and the food was superb, what a change!
The food could only be described as below average.
Do not visit.

Honestly this place is horrendous. Wish I had read the reviews before we went!!! We stopped because it looked nice from the outside but honestly the Food is appalling - waited over fifty minutes as they only cook one table at a time (literally) but when it came it was inedible. It's also filthy and really badly managed. Genuinely don't go, keep driving and look for a nicer place that deserves your money.

We should have walked out as soon as we walked in as the place is a state, but we gave it the benefit of doubt and shouldn't have!!!! Waste of money :-( The photo above of beautiful hanging baskets is no more, we were greeted with an overflowing bin and endless fag buts. The toilets were dirty, so I dread to think what the kitchens were like. The food is expensive, the fixture and fittings tacky and dirty looking. The kids meals were larger than the adults meals and between 4 plates of food there was not one piece of fresh food, so salad garnish, no fresh burgers, no onions. The coleslaw was inedible. The cheese burgers were burnt, and there really was no cheese. No onions, no salad, no dressings...... Nothing. We could have got fresher food in McDonald's.
The staff were pleasant enough, but this place has been trashed into a motel type establishment. We ate there about 6 years ago and it was wonderful. We left feeling very hungry and totally ripped off.
Make it smaller and start again....it could be so good!!

We had been on a lovely walk from Sutton Poytnz to Osmington and thought we would stop off at the Sunray for lunch. We realised that it may have issues when we saw the empty car park (Sunday lunch-time). We had our two dogs with us so I sat in the "empty" pub garden whilst my husband went into grab a menu. He came out with a menu which was grubby and sticky and said " I don;'t want to stay here it is dirty inside and the lady who was behind the bar was very curt and unwelcoming". So we decided to keep walking to the Smugglers at Osmington Mills which was lovely - see my review! I know we didn't try any food or even a drink so perhaps its a bit unfair to give it a bad review before trying anything - but it's not just about the food it's about the atmosphere, the cleanliness and the staff. This place will not last long with this sort of attitude to customer service.
