“Don't expect luxury but good value for money”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

The rooms are basic and do need a lot of updating, but our room was clean. The meals were good with a varied choice, staff were friendly and efficient. Entertainment on the first night was brilliant but the following two were a little amateurish. We would definitely return as the value for money was good.£89 for 3 nights.

Made a last minute booking on the 30th Jan (£75 each) arrived on the 31st and stayed 3 nights. We had two single rooms which were perfectly adequate, clean, warm and comfortable with no complaints about the en- suite.

The breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and lots of it. Evening meal was also good with plenty of choice. Staff friendly and cheerful. Bingo followed by a singer was perfectly fine for the age group staying there - if there was anyone under 50 I must have missed them!

The evenings passed very pleasantly with lost of chatting and dancing - this was probably helped by the half price bar from 7pm - 11pm! which also I think helped to keep the customers in the hotel instead of going for a wander thereby enhancing the atmosphere.

We previously stayed at the Russell several years ago and would certainly stay at either again.

After reading previous reviews of the Prince Regent we where a littl apprehensive about our upcoming stay But we need not have been anxious as the hotel was very good value. The bedrooms I saw where large clean and well fitted. The food was very good and the service from the staff was second to non. It is in an exelent position for obviously the beach but also the town shopping center was only a 10-15 minutes walk away and a bus stop was 2 minutes away. Also the fact the Russel hotel next door is part of the same building there was never a problem of finding entertainment and seating for everybody. We look forward returning to yet another great Daishes group hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights having been sent a flyer jointly from the previous owners and the new ones. We had been to The Regent before.

The hotel's car park is accessed from the back and lies beneath the ballroom which is supported by posts. Drivers of larger vehicles have to be extremely careful when negotiating their way past the posts to a properly allocated parking slot.

Our room was at the back, but we were not disappointed by the lack of a sea view as we were only it to sleep. It did have some dust in some the corners (where the maid can reach) and bits of spiders webs across the ceiling (where she cannot). The rooms have tea and coffee facilities but ours and several others had no milk on the first day though reception gave us plenty when we asked.

NOTE: We found it odd that it was only on the penultimate day that we given biscuits in our room!?

As there was much painting and refurbishing work going on, the Regent's ballroom was closed and all entertainment was held next door in the Russell Hotel. The Russell has a smaller dance floor which at times becomes crowded and meant our style of dancing (ballroom and sequence) where we move anti-clockwise around the floor was severely limited by the relatively static "disco boppers" and line-dancers.

That said, the standard of entertainment was really excellent and we had good keyboard players every night who were only too pleased to play requests. Their music was mostly light traditional pop, but there was an excellent country music duo one evening.

The food was good quality and was ample.

Two small grudges:
Hot water sometimes takes a very long time to reach some of the bath rooms and one has to be patient!
The lift has two doors and sometimes people don't ensure the inside door is closed when they get out. (I wonder if fitting a buzzer that operates when the door is open would help remind them?)

We were struck by the amount of praise from other guests who have stayed in other hotels run by the new owners. Also, the speed shown in refurbishing some of the more obviously run-down parts of the hotel shows serious intent and we are looking forwards to a return visit,

As an aside - during the off-season there is a limited amount of free parking along the sea front but we were unable to find a space there. This was somewhat annoying as throughout our stay one car remained parked in a fashion that wasted some of the space - not the hotel's fault but I do wish people could be more considerate.

On the outside this is a lovely hotel although it could do with a steam clean. We've stayed three times and I do like it as it's very central and the beach is across the road so ideal for walking. But although we always have the same room with the balcony overlooking the sea, I have to admit that it is very tired and in need of a serious clean - inside and out. The room just feels a bit yucky. It's a shame as tHe room is a great size and the bathroom is fab. The breakfast room is the same. Parking however is horrendous. If you have anything bigger than a fiesta you have a nightmare trying to get in the garage. Apart from this, if the hotel was given a makeover I'd probably go back. Although the staff could also do with a few reception lessons too.

My Mother and I have just returned from a 4 night break at the Regent Hotel. What an impressive building and though Daish's have obviously to bring it up to their standards, they have already started, all with the very minimum of disruption. We hope that Visitors will realise that the lack of upgrading was due to the previous owners, and not the fault of Daish's, who will soon have a real success on their hands, knowing their reputation. The self-serve breakfasts were of a good quality and variety and the Evening Meals always had a choice of two main Courses and were very well cooked and presented by very pleasant Staff. We felt that the Staff gave a feeling that they want the Hotel to be a real winner. We and some of Family are looking forward to returning later this year to enjoy the delights.

Our annual visit to The Inglewood Hotel in Torquay with two coaches of friends from Bristol was cancelled due to the ceiling collapsing. Instead we were booked in to the Russell Hotel & the Prince Regent Hotel in Weymouth.
My first thought was that this is a hotel used by Majestic. When we arrived we found out that Daish’s had taken over the both hotels since late December. This being our favourite holiday Company, we were more than pleased.
We were given Room 117, an executive, sea view room in the Prince Regent and were more than happy. The room was very spacious and lots of wardrobe space and included an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The bathroom with shower only, was big and we even had a sink each. There were lovely fluffy bath sheets that actually fit around your body!! My parents had an even bigger room, with settee in room 107.
There were teething troubles in both hotels, some people not having hot water. The boiler broke down whilst we were there but it was quickly sorted.
The breakfast was self-service and plenty to choose from, cereals, fresh fruit, full English and plenty of tea/coffee and toast, served by our friendly waiter Matt. The evening meals were a bit hit and miss and could be improved.
It was so cold in the Prince Regent Ballroom; we went to the Russell Hotel for entertainment, which is a short walk through the corridor.
We all look forward to re-visiting these hotels in the future.
