“Fantastic look at history”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

Wonderful little house tucked away in the back street on the Quayside. The guide was so knowledgeable about the house and furniture but also about the area at the time of the Tudors. Quite small but all the rooms are beautifully furnished. Well worth a visit for the small entrance fee. Only open now until the end of October and then only the first Sunday in the month during the winter months.

“Tudor House”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

A little treasure tucked away in the backstreets of Weymouth, near Brewers Quay, there appeared to be several other Tudor buildings in the street but this was the one so described and open to the public (closed Mondays) in the afternoons May to October. Tours are £3.50 per adult,£1 children and disabled, however, only the downstairs is accessible to wheelchairs. The house is thought to have been a merchant’s property, originally fronting an inlet from the main harbour, allowing ships to be moored alongside. The inlet was filled in during the late 18th century and the building remained as two small houses, becoming derelict after being empty during the Second World War and suffering bomb damage.
In the 1950’s a local architect acquired the property and restored it to a single dwelling, which he furnished in the style of an early seventeenth century home of a middle class family which is how it is today. Well worth a visit especially for History buffs.
