“A lot of money for not a lot in return”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

The only good thing about this hotel is its position. You are right next to the sea front one way and right next to the shops the other way. That's all. It is incredibly run down and desperately needs updating. Our room had the curtain hanging off the rail, it was classed as a family room but only had enough room for one bed and when. The other beds where in the room there was no walking space. On the plus side it had a big bathroom BUT the blind had to be permenately down as you could see directly into rooms behind you and it had the worst shower in Weymouth. The hotel food was very basic and very rushed staff stood over you waiting for plates. There are a lot better places in Weymouth for the same cost and they are worth looking for.

A very warm welcome on arrival. Very quick response to my request for the change of room as the one allocated had some minor problems. A Thai girl at the reception was more than willing to help me to move into the other room next door. Both room and bath were clean and large with disable access. It was located at street level but there was hardly any noise at night. The windows were properly secure. Both the Thai and Eastern European girls at the reception were fabulous and very approachable. Although we were allocated room in The Central Hotel right behind Fairhaven Hotel (Both under Kings Hotels group), we were asked to join other guests for breakfast in the large dining hall in Fairhaven hotel. Friendly and very efficient service by a team of Spanish waiters at breakfast which was very good. A good way to start the day. Plenty of tea and milk was available in the room. Location was very good as we were allowed to walk through to dining hall of Fairhaven out to the main road and over to the beach on the other side. Extremely convenient for my disable wife. Shops and restuarants within walking distance Parking was available on the premises at nominal rates.
I would like to mention here in particular that I booked a room in Fairhaven in September 2011. Unfortunately, my wife fell ill just before we were to leave and I had to cancel the booking. So, the hotel advised me that as I had not taken out insurance, the deposit paid was non-refundable but they would be pleased to apply it to a future holiday taken within 18 months of today’s date i.e. May 2012 which I used against this holiday in May 2013.
Top marks to everyone at The Central Hotel and Fairhaven Hotel. God willing, we will be back again next year to enjoy the Kite International Festival.

We stayed here a few years ago. We got more sleep at home !! The hotel even allowed people to check in at 2.30 am!! People out side in the streets were shouting, too many bars in the area, including table top bar. Good for central location. But never again. Its a shame that the police & hotlel staff cant control the noise level.

Room Tip: take your earplugs

Having just returned from 3 nights at this hotel was disgusted with the stay very basic rooms curtains off rails having a room next to a boiler room the noise well why try and sleep!!!! The bar was never open, no vacancies sign on doors and only 5 rooms taken!! Even basic hotels have hooks on doors and signs stuck on back of doors hanging off! Welcome brochure absolutely useless for entertainment you have to go to there sister hotel over the road!! As for the breakfast its grease on a side plate and if you want ketchup the waiter has to serve you that as well!!!! They then proceed to stand over you and as soon as you put your cutlery down whoosh they are there clearing your table!!!!!!! We will never stay at this hotel again or recommend it for £70 a night we don't feel its value for money!!!!!!

A short but very enjoyable stay. The service and catering could not be faulted and the accommodation was very comfortable. There are plenty of meal choices on the menu and the food is served very promptly. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the location is ideal for shops and the promenade - not too much walking involved!

I took a group of 28 pensioners to this hotel for 5 days, after pre-arranging various requirements e.g. ground floor rooms and accessibility.
The staff were helpful beyond what was expected of them, being there for anybody who needed them. They were all polite and happy to help whatever was required., The rooms we were allocated were comfortable, clean and the towels were changed if they were left on the bath.
There was ample food which was of a fairly good quality, however hot food was served on cold plates which meant that the food went cold fairly quickly, and this was the only negative point I could find which could be easily rectified. However, if anybody did have any problems with the food the staff were more than happy to put it right.
The entertainment was good and varied for the age range of people who were there and my party enjoyed it.
I have to say that i would return to this hotel but without the remainder of my group, since without help from the staff it could have proved very difficult for the disabled people in our party, as we had to walk through another hotel to get to the Hotel Central.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who helped our party whilst we were there, you were all much appreciated.

Stayed here after we were stranded by a ferry cancellation.

I was with a female friend and staff were initially hostile to us (I assume that they thought we were a couple) and were non-committal about whether a room was available at all.

We had to explain ourselves before it was established that there was a room and then we were told there was nowhere to park my car due to roadworks outside the hotel. No alternative was offered.

The room was basic but comfortable, with two narrow single beds with retro spung mattresses. We has a tiny analogue telly in the corner and a basic shower room. However, the shower was hot, towels were fluffy and more importantly it was clean.

The usual tea/coffee facilities were in the room and we both had a good night's sleep.

A nice touch was that we left before breakfast but we were given a packed lunch for our journey instead which was ready for us on the dot of 7am as requested.
