“Park Dean resorts”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

stayed here in July with my wife and 2 children 6 and 3. we stayed in a lakeside lodge. The accommodation was spacious 3 bedrooms and close to the facilities and as stated overlooking the lakes. Be aware these are fishing lakes used by anglers not staying on site so be prepared to wake up with anglers outside your window. The lodge was average typical musky smell from a well used lodge over the years. Not modern in the slightest. Décor was dated to say the least. I don't think worth the £800+ we paid for a week. The facilities were good but with the park being close to Weymouth and all local attractions we spent every day off the park so location is excellent. Entertainment was good for the kids with shows and games. The food was excellent which I was pleasantly surprised by. Overall experience average/good but not very good

We booked this holiday park at the last minute. We actually booked through hoseasons rather than park dean but i believe it is the same package. We didn't get off to a good start as the traffic was really bad through the surrounding roads and the sat nav postcode direct you to another caravan park up the road. A quick phone call sorted this out tho. Check in was very quick with everything ready for us including our passes to the facilities and a map of the site.
We were in lodge 21 which is sold as suitable for 2 adults and 2 children in a 1 bedroom lodge. We found it easily and to our children's delight we were opposite a playground full of wooden balancing beams etc. the lodge was spotlessly clean and the children's single beds were made up with the bedding for the adults on the side. There were also towels available despite not being listed on the website. We unpacked quickly and went to get some food at the restaurant. The food was reasonable quality altho a little pricey. £30+ for 4 meals and drinks.
After our meal we explored a bit and then went back to our lodge. The bathroom has a shower but no bath so trying to wash 2 small children was a challenge especially when the shower hose has a large split in it- we were all soaked. ( reported this the next day and it was repaired within the hour!). We settled the children down and preceded to sort out our sofa bed. OMG it was the most painful and uncomfortable thing in the world. The mattress was less than 1" thick and the frame must have been warped as there was major roll together in both directions. I think we managed to get about 3 hours sleep and that was by lying on top of the duvet.
After that we discovered that the only way we would manage to get any sleep was by putting all of the sofa and chair seat cushions on the frame and cover them with the mattress and duvet and even then it was still quite uncomfortable.
The site itself is lovely. There are ducks, rabbits and deer wandering freely around the site. It is very wooded so very quiet with no road noise at all. There is a shop, launderette and fish& chip shop on site. The fish and chips altho tasty were very over cooked and dry. We didn't try the entertainment altho the little i saw looked like typical british holiday camp style with bingo, kids disco and tribute bands. The wifi is very slow and only available in the bar area. The swimming pool is great with wave machine, slide etc and is always manned with lifeguards. The changing facilities could do with more attendants as they were quite dirty when i went.
There is lots to do in the surrounding areas and lots of information within the park. There is an area in the bar that is a mini tourist information office. We visited weymouth sea life centre, portland bill, dinosaur museum, peppa pig world, longleat to name just a few.

Room Tip: Bring toilet paper and tea towels!

We have just returned from a Parkdean holiday, we had two Portland 3bed lodges, which there was a lovely open plan lounge dinning kitchen, two bedrooms which have wardrobe & chest of drawers third bedroom had small cabinet. The lodges were in lovely woodland with deers & squirrels. The children loved the ski slope, & by the end of the week could ski from the top of the slope. We had a lovely time, only one down fall was the so called fish & chip on site, it was disgusting & we complained & they were very good & gave us our money back no argument, will defo go back again......

Got back a week ago, went for two weeks from Friday 25 July to Friday 8 August 2014.

Arrived a little late about 5.30pm, no queue at all at reception. We were staying in a Dorchester Lodge number Z150, parking to the side of the lodge so excellent. We specifically asked for a pet free lodge also. The lodge was just about a year old and we could see it was new as we approached. It was with some trepidation that we went inside, having read about how dirty some of the lodges were, and how they were not cleaned very well, etc. So, in we go, armed with a multitude of cleaning stuffs just in case!

Well, we couldn't have been more pleased !! It was excellent. This is probably the first place I have stayed where I didn't feel the need to clean everywhere before we unpacked, or wash all the crocks, cutlery etc. The place was sparkling. The fridge was so clean it looked brand new. The beds were all made up and the linen was crisp and fresh. Our cleaner was called "Onnie" and I want to give him/her a shout out as he/she did an excellent job.

The lodge was amazing. There was a washer/dryer which was a godsend with three children, a dishwasher, built in microwave and a really good oven. All of which were also spotless and looked new.

The washer dryer is in a small utility room as you enter the lodge, and very useful to have that room for sandy shoes or muddy wellies if the weather is bad. There is a sink in there to swill shoes etc. Very useful.

There was also a blender, hand mixer and all the utensils, glassware, crockery and cutlery were of a very high standard - not your normal cheap stuff.

Only thing I would say is the sofas are very uncomfortable. But thats by the by. Oh and there were also too many cushions - seriously, there were like ten in each bedroom, all got thrown on the floor each night and was just a waste, really, and they got in the way.

There was a large widescreen TV in the lounge, and, amazingly, also one in main bedroom too, both wall mounted. There was also a small TV in one of the twin rooms - how awesome is that!!

Lovely big dinging table, fantastic patio, really, I cant praise this lodge enough. I would give the lodge 5 stars easily and more. 100 stars for the lodge.

The park itself. Well, it is lovely, there are deer that wander freely around - I have never seen a deer in the wild in real life, so it was an absolute treat for me. Although they didn't come as far down as where we were staying, we saw them regularly by other lodges on the regular walks up to the main reception/entertainment area. Bunnies too, lots of rabbits around very close by our lodge, just lying there without a care - very cute!!

I have given four stars because there wasn't really a lot for teenagers on the site - the rollerskating was good, we didn't bother with the ski slopes as none of us enjoy ski-ing. The entertainment at night was abysmal, really. Washed out comediennes who were not funny. The staff tried but it was all a bit wet. Having been to Sandford park several years ago (wow, in fact in was 2006!) and seen the effort the staff there put in, well, they were amazing - perhaps we were lucky then and unlucky this time, I don't know, but for teenagers wanting to dress up for the evening and go to the club house, it was pretty dire. The prices at the club house were massively too high. So much so we would only have one drink each a night. The doormen were ok, although one was a jobsworth, having got all ready we made the trek up to the clubhouse one night, me, hubby and three kids, well, we had forgotten our passes - UGH!! We showed the doorman our lodge key, but he said he could only let two of us in, not all five??? Whats the difference? You either believe we are staying here or you don't? I pointed out to him that who would really want to go there if they weren't holiday makers on the park? It's not like people would be chomping on the bit to see their crappy acts and pay a fortune for drinks!!!!!

So after trekking all the way up and down the hilly roads back to the lodge and back up to the clubhouse again armed with our passes, guess what?? There wasn't anybody even on the damn door when we got back there!!!! Silly guy was off collecting glasses or something so anyone could just walk in!!!. UGH!!!

I cant comment on the food here because, due to the other bad reviews, we didn't want to risk a bad meal. Plus, they stop serving food after nine, so any evening meals are out.

We used the gym there regularly but the staff at the leisure complex were very lax. It took them several days to replace the paper towelling in there to wipe away sweat of the machines, to replace batteries in the rower, and the air con unit it there was constantly full, despite us informing the staff each day.

The gym is only open between 10am and 6pm. This is rubbish. It should open much earlier, around 7am, to give people a chance to work out then carry on with their day.

But all in all a very nice place, need to look at few things, but our lodge was excellent. We had great weather during our stay so luckily we were out and about around Dorset doing stuff. Think we would have been bored to heck if we had had to stay around the site though due to bad weather. Weymouth beach is the closest and easiest to park. Very nice also. Warmwell is located away from the main holiday areas such as Bournemouth, Poole etc. So expect to drive everywhere.

Once again, lovely lodge.

Room Tip: Go for pet free if want a clean lodge, you have to stipulate this when you book.

We stayed in a privately owened lodge which was amazing, it was down its own private road, accommodation itself was faultless and had lovely views across to the lake.
Children really enjoyed the facilities on the park, particularly the ski slope and the evening entertainment.
Only couple of issues were - restaurant - we went for a dinner there, service was very slow and the food was of a poor quality. Swimming pool - based on the level of the other facilities you would expect this to be better, it is small and the changing rooms are not the nicest - please update this to the level of the rest of the park!
Will certainly be back again......

Room Tip: Go for the privately owned lodges.

We stayed for a week in the Dorchester lodges which are one of the more expensive ones.

Great setting in the woods and overlooking a nature reserve. Great to unwind with a glass of wine on the balcony.

The lodge was very well apportioned and of a good quality. The site was really clean.

The only couple of faults I would say is that the swimming pool is not really set up for swimming it's based on then wave pool and for messing around in. Consequently a lot of teenagers mess around. We also used the under 4s club a couple of times and this was rubbish.

Thinking of coming back.

Room Tip: Go for Dorchester

This is a review of the restaurant only but
Breakfast review
Burnt eggs (the whole underside of all the eggs), striped bacon (undercooked / burnt depending on which part touched the unclean Plancha), sausages so bereft of meat free they could qualify as vegetarian a and I suspect were once in liquid form. How can it be possible to make a worse breakfast than this? Avoid at all costs its an embarrassment to Parkdean. Talking of cost don't let the apparent reasonable cost of £4.25 deceive you as you only get one on of each of these burnt offerings and they still stiff you £1.50 for two slices of badly cooked toast. I have had some bad breakfasts in my 46 years but this seriously has to be the worst!
