We stayed here for New Years. Accommodation very good but new year celebration was not good, front of house did not have any idea what was going on. It was black tie which only applied to about 70% no body asked to see tickets no welcome. The food was very limited for about the last 30 guests and only lukewarm and some had run out completely. No count down to see in the new year.

We run a busy village pub and looked forward to our two nights at the Riviera as a "carrot" at the end of the Christmas period and we were not disappointed. After a very difficult drive in appauling weather on New Years Day we were greeted with a smile, we were checked in promptly and advised that due to the time that there were restricted facilities but checked with the kitchen for dinning times and let us know that they could only offer a "bar" menu. Our room was 103, with sea view, warm, clean and cosy. We took a drink in the bar and again advised of the menu and alternatives, as with our own establishment, you run out of things over the festive season but the choice was still varied. The staff could not have been nicer, polite, remember who we were and what we wanted. We have stayed in some very expensive hotels and I would rate the customer service and proper sausages with the English Breakfast up there with them, at a fraction of the cost. There are several complaining comments on this site and I am very pleased to have stayed here, will stay again and tell people. Thank you to the team over the New Year period.

We have just returned from a lovely stay over New Year and we had a great time. Obviously there were a few restrictions to the menu and opening times of the restaurant and bar but only what you would expect at this time of year. We were able to get a lovely meal and the breakfasts were really good. Staff were polite, very willing and helpful, and made us very welcome. Our room was very cosy and lovely and clean. We would love to return to the Riviera and thank everyone for a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - it's stunning.

I stayed at the Riviera Hotel over New Year, the Hotel was very clean, staff very friendly, prices very reasonable.
I attended the New Year Party and found that I got real value for my money!
What some people expect is beyond me! If you were that unhappy on day 1 then why stay for another 2 days ?
I had a very minor problem and it was dealt with straight away and very professionally.
Stop moaning and enjoy.

booked over the new year for four days informed that a casino evening was organised and there would be food served firstly canapes followed by a hot buffet what a disaster queuing for food for at least 30 minutes on each occasion. The casino was two tables to accommodate approx 100 guests again queueing the tickets were priced at £50 per person attending for an evening of disaster
The bedrooms were small and functional although they could do with new mattress, the shower would only work if nobody else was showering in another room or flushing the toilet bad smell coming from drains in bathroom.
House keeping staff need a lesson on how to be more customer focused they arrived at 1730 to ask if anything was needed bed not made room not tided that was day 1 day 2 1730 housekeeping arrived again made the bed with the same linen day 3 housekeeping arrived at 1630 as we were fed up with the service i stripped the bed to ensure that it would be made the staff were not happy with this as they only arrived to make up the bed. Toilet roll/clean towels had to be asked for and had to wait 4 hours to use the only iron in the hotel bins were not emptied this was done by myself.
On a plus side the view out to sea was nice

Room Tip: stay elsewhere

Multi million pound make over???? Where? It's shabby from the front and a bigger disgrace at the rear. The rooms have been decorated to some extent and reception is pleasant. As for the staff well no manners and unhelpful and scruffy. Sara was pleasant and had local knowledge.Nice location but never again.
