“Wonderful views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014

Spent a long weekend here at begining of January. Large room with electric heating which made the room cosy and warm all the time. Large double bed and en suite shower room Breakfast was included and was buffet style with a very good choice. Yes they are chalet style rooms but so very comfortable. You have to walk outside to get to restaurant which was not too bad but we had more rain that weekend than have seen in a long time.Very reasonable. Would stay again as we have family living in Weymouth.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room. Really fantastic views from this hotel right on the beach.

Beautiful hotel overlooking the sea. Full to capacity due to a wedding reception, but this did not have any effect on the rest of the hotel until breakfast the following morning where we had 3/4 hour wait as the restaurant was full. But the staff were friendly, cheerful, and very helpful and we had a very pleasant breakfast, a little later than anticipated, but worth the wait.

Room Tip: Most rooms seemed to overlook the sea. Ours was a superior double and was excellent value.

Clean and tidy, cheap and cheerful. Really do not understand negative reviews that I read prior to stay, excellent value for money for a weekend away with friends. Comfortable bed and tasty breakfast. Thank you

Booked off well known website for a very good rate great location the hotel is a former holiday camp but has been awarded for the Art Deco design it is overlooking the bay ,a nice room on ground floor. The restaurant was a bit basic but the bar staff were good .It is pity it was a mid week stop over and very dark outside so the view did not last but a recommended .

I seriously hesitated booking a room at the Riviera Hotel because of some bad reviews and because the Hotel just looks awful.
The building is a great example of terrible 1930's architecture, even to me, who surprisingly likes architecture from the 30's.
But money was short and the Riviera was one of the cheapest hotels in the area, so we just took the risk and went there. And we have to admit: We actually enjoyed our stay.
As said before the hotel looks awful from the outside and the years did their part to make it worse.
But when we got our room it was actually quite clean and modern. It looks like some serious work was put into them: A big, modern and clean bathroom, a good flat screen tv, a comfortable bed, a mini fridge and strong wifi. Only the curtains should be replaced because they were old, brownish-grey and dirty. Also the door of our room was old and skewed so we could actually see daylight between the gaps. But the heater was strong and the close ocean is soothing. So it wasn't a big issue.
The breakfast was simple and not particularly good, the pool was simple, but ok. The sauna tiny but working, the "Whirlpool" wasn't really a whirlpool but something broken build in the pool. Just skip the Spa, actually.
In General I'd stay there again, if I'd get a good deal.

This was the second time we stayed at the riviera and we loved it even in december. The staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome. The room was very clean and bright. There is a nice relaxed feeling about the hotel. We will be staying again hopefully soon.

Room Tip: When you book ask for a sea view

My better half usually does the reviews...but I had to get my pennies worth in. On arrival the Riviera looks probably average. At the reception we had a warm welcome and the staff were very helpful. The room itself was great, clean and bigger than what I thought it would be, as some of the pictures from other travellers didn't paint a positive picture. We asked if possible for sea views and were lucky enough to get them. At night the Riviera looks totally different....all lit up and looks stunning, and with the views across the bay itself another bonus. The breakfast the next day was very good . Again friendly , helpful staff. I can't comment on the other food on offer as we ate out as the stay was a birthday treat. But I would love to come again hopefully for a bit longer stay.

Room Tip: I would say....ask for a sea view
