“Lovely nights stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

A lovely stay at the Riveira, staff friendly & helpful, we stayed at the back of the hotel which the surrounding area was a little shabby, but the room was lovely bright & clean :-) the reception , bar & restaurant was very clean & inviting, we used the pool, sauna & steam room which was good. Breakfast buffet was basic but good, fantastic views,

Room Tip: When booking ask for a sea view room, otherwise you are put at the back of the hotel where the scene...

This may not be the greatest of hotels, it still has a little of the Butlins about it. The experience in late winter, when there are very few other guests is somewhat akin to checking into the hotel in the shining........ I expected jack Nicholson to come hacking through the door at any moment.......for fans of this style of architecture, not to be missed. Rooms were clean, reasonably refurbished, good value for money. Breakfast was great with really good quality sausage. The twin room we stayed in was really good value for money.

I stayed at this hotel for one night with 2 friends. Looks impressive as you approach it being art deco and painted white and blue but the surrounding area looks a bit tatty, particularly in February! Took a while to work out that the aluminium door is actually the front entrance. Checked in ok and made my way to my room which was on the first floor. Doors to majority of rooms open onto open walkway which is quite exposed but with fantastic view. When I arrived at my room at 3pm the previous guests dirty linen was still outside the door.......and was still there at 11am the following day despite having asked for it to be removed at 7pm the previous evening. Room was clean but the main light didnt work and the inside of the fridge was actually warmer than the room. Probably because it is housed in a small cupboard with very little space round it for ventilation. I like a firm bed but what I got was more like an excedingly thin mattress on a solid wooden board, very uncomfortable. Bathroom small and shower cubicle very snug. Toilet paper dumped on top of loo cistern, not even a holder! Come on, even your basic flea pit at least can boast a loo roll holder - but the corner of the paper was delicatley folded to a point!
Went downstairs for a bite to eat and a drink whilst I waited for my friends to arrive. Young barman managed to put the gin in my glass but then had to spend several minutes identifying the bottle of tonic water and he then proceded to empty the whole contents into my drink which was presented without ice or lemon or the offer of any. Looked surprised when I asked for some, no lemon available and ice had to be unearthed from some far away place..
Luckily I had already booked a restaurant in Weymouth (Enzos, absolutley fantastic) as there was no a la carte available and the hotel menu was basic to say the least. Took a while for me to realise that the restaurant was actually the restaurant. Brown room housing brown tables without any linen of any description and looking rather like the cafeteria must have looked like when it was a holiday camp. After a lovely meal in Weymouth we decided to have a nightcap back at the hotel - no, sorry, 10.45 and the bar was shut.
Breakfast next day........hot(ish) food had run out and had to wait 10 minutes for some more to come out which very soon went cold as there was no hot plate for it to sit on, just some rather inadequate lamps. Milk dispensor empty as were the fruit juice jugs. Tea and coffee dispensed from a magic pot that was eventually brought to your table and then taken away again so we had to ask and then wait for a top up. Tepid food put onto cold plates, cups with chips and cracks, mismatched cutlery - steak knives at breakfast??
There is a 'leisure centre' offering a pool (very nice and warm and clean), sauna and gym. Pool should have been open at 8 am but didnt until about 8.15 when the member of staff eventually arrived. On talking to some local people who regularly use the pool, opening late is quite a usual occurrence.
This hotel could be so much better but there doesn't appear to be anyone working there who is actually making sure things are done properly and that the guest feels valued. Normally when you stay in a hotel you are beseiged by staff asking if everything is ok, to the point where it gets irritating.....but not at the Riviera.. It is in a fabulous location and is quirky and unusual. I never saw anyone who appeared to be in charge at all during my stay and when we checked out wasn't asked if I'd enjoyed my stay or had any interest shown at all.
Read my review but please still stay at this hotel. It's not the staff's fault and if people don't go there then their jobs will suffer. Stay there but be very un British and complain....if you get a chance to!

The hotel itself is ok with good facilities and a decent enough breakfast.
The room we occupied was on the ground floor next to reception and due to the ill fitting entrance door was very draughty. The hotel has fantastic views over the sea and Weymouth harbour along the coast,I would stay here again as it offers good value for money.

we took 58 dancers to the hotel for a dance weekend, rooms are nice and cosy, dance floor is great, food is fantastic, but they could do with some hot plates to help keep the food warm, there was local fresh fish on the menu every day, and the breakfast were brilliant, staff were very helpful, and friendly, will be booking again for sure,

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are the best, it's lovely to go to sleep listening to the sea, and you then have a...

Very clean and tidy chalet style room. Old Pontins holiday camp. Large double bed and although rooms are on the small side, they are more than adequate for two people. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Stunning views of the sea. Buffet style breakfast. Bit stingy with the shower gel as it wasn't replaced when room was made up on the Saturday and the water pressure in the shower was pretty low. However more than happy to back again and have already rebooked. There is a small gym and indoor pool which are fine for a weekend break. The outdoor pool is a good size. If you want a romantic break you may want to avoid high season as outdoor pool is only a few feet from the chalets on one side.

Room Tip: Rooms to the left of reception should be quieter in the high season
