“Should be classed as MOTEL”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

Looked good on website but very run down , room tiny , open wardrobe door and get trapped in bed ! no where to put your towels , lit up like a Christmas tree outside which meant the room was never dark and restful, constant humming from a ? generator 24/7 .
No seats on the 'so called ' patio, which was actually a walkway. It had the feeling of a Motel but was not reflected in the price we paid £89 BB. Room not serviced on 2 consecutive days , we stayed 3 nights, did speak to the owner who refunded 1 night's tariff.
Outside areas need a good lawnmower , outside pool out of action in June !!
On the plus side breakfast not bad very pleasant waitress.
Sorry but would not recommend this place to anyone. Which upset me as I had booked it for my husband's 70th birthday.

June 2014 - we have just spent a night in beautiful Weymouth. What a lovely spot. Drove there from a 30 hour flight - yes a long way from Australia. But it was an easy drive and the location well worth it.
The Good - Seeing the hotel from a Distance, it looks majestic. As previous reviewers have said, sensational location, a little far out from the "all happening Weymouth city centre but you would be unlucky not to have a beach and sea view. The design is a surprising 77 years old plus as the hotel was built in 1937. The room we had was refurbished, you might say after that length of time it should be. The hotel staff, very accommodating - also as previous reviewers have said. Room was clean, but could do with a little more effort.
The Bad - needs a lot of TLC. The landscaping needs attention, what there is of it. Some real effort and it could make a difference. The pool area is well below average, as is the pool, irrespective of coming off a spring season. We decided to walk around the parameter of the hotel to take in the ambience. At the back of the hotel on the patio backing onto the function rooms were broken bottles and glasses, dirty plates so parents beware of your little ones if they go exploring. In the function rooms were used coffee cups and plates. Bad impression, and a safety issue - easy to fix. If you have heavy luggage, as we did, getting into the small room, was a challenge as the door wouldn't open much past the bed so the luggage had to be lifted across the bed onto the other side. Bad design, could be fixed with re-designing the furniture location in the room. If you were creative, may be better ways of getting luggage into the room. No parking allowed outside the reception area so down the hill you go. Back up the hill with your heavy luggage and the stairs to the reception unless you have a disability, which is around the side of the reception - so that makes it easier.
Overall, advice to the hotel, start paying attention to detail, TLC, spend some wise money on your investment, or people will choose a number of other options and the Riviera will become a white elephant.

Room Tip: First floor - higher room numbers for better view.

House keeping is bad. Hotel needs painting and patching up. Nothing to do. The hotel is lit up at night to look good and that also lights up your room if you have the sea view side of the hotel. If there is a party in the function room forget any sleep. The food is ok but not worth the money. Breakfast is worth the money, full English. This hotel could be brilliant is some money was spent on it and some thought went into improving the evenings.

Room Tip: Get a room as far as possible from reception, sea view.

We stayed for a few nights here end of June weather was not brilliant but this hotel is situated in a lovely spot with a gorgeous view of Weymouth beach. outside could do with lick of paint but inside was very clean. Rooms very clean comfy big beds. Staff very pleasant and helpful. This hotel is old if people want to get service from the Hilton then pay their prices and go stay there. The food was good hot and plenty. Indoor pool to use if weather not good and you have little ones to entertain.Good Value for Money! Would go back again. Alot of money has been spent refurbishing the inside of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for Sea View

Website makes it look great, booked a double room- when got to reception to check in, the two young receptionists were on the phones taking bookings, sorting out wedding arrangements, etc instead of checking us in. We had asked for upper floor with sea view which costs £10 more but at least doesn't look out over trash bins and dirty linen like the others we found out. Went to room after climbing a very narrow set of steps looking grimy, past Critall metal windows that had rust on them. Open door of tiny room but with twin beds,oh no- so back to reception. After peering at the screen for a while they said yes we can see your booking on our website was for a double but when it came to us it was on automatic which means we can allocate either!? So can we move? No we are fully booked but you can move tomorrow. I said but I see you still have a pile of booking sheets and Keys here of those who haven't booked in, cant you change us now, swap? No we cannot, if you want to change we can change you tomorrow sorry. Okay well do we at least get a free drink or something? So were given a pass for complimentary drink. Oh, also in our room no toiletries at all, only one glass in bathroom and only one wine glass by fridge. Was given four horrid Little sachets of bath gel and 2 tiny soaps...
Went to " luxury health club", dirty- got a towel from guy at reception who wasn't really interested, said do we need a pound for lockers, "No all the lockers are broken", what? Went to mens changing room, had a look around pretty poor state of everything- no shower gel at all in shower- back to the guy, can I have some shower gel please nothing in the shower. "We don't have any". Sorry?, I want a shower but I do not have any shower gel as health clubs supply it. "We do not have any". So what am I supposed to do after a swim with chlorine in my hair?" Look we don't have any and don't supply it". I gave up, when all the way back to hotel reception and asked for sachets of gel..
Then we wanted to go to the swimming pool, but the door was shut with no handle on reception side! The guy had to come round and wedge his finger nails in to prise door open, we said why no door handle?...
Only one of the five jaquzii jets was working rest just bunged up, by this time we were laughing wonder what next would go wrong! Didn't have to wait long, after going out for a meal we came back and decided to try to bar and get our drink, we went and saw on door to the dining room/ resturant that bar closes at 11pm. It was 10.40 but around the bar were 8 or so people waiting and no bar tender. After about 5 mins a lady went to reception and came back said they are calling someone. 10 minutes later still noone so we said shall we just go behind and help ourselves? I went to reception and said Look there are lots of folk wanting a drink and no barman. She said she would get someone, but this time it was getting on for 5 to 11! eventually three guys appeared at the staff door talking and to our amazement carried on talking then one sauntered round and said" Hi can I help, but the bar is closing at 11" he was almost lynched, then no where to sit with your drink as all the tables had been lain up for breakfast.
Oh Breakfast? Another story, a queue of 8 or so with nobody talking any notice, no eye contact, no one saying we will be with you- several tables being cleaned off so slow, seemed to take staff ages to clean a table and re set. When I saw a staff lady nearby I called her over and said whats going on we've been here 10 minutes, Oh we are preparing tables, then another guest told us it had been like it all week. I went to reception to get the Times newspaper I had ordered, but they didn't have it, they had forgot to order it, but strange there was a Times for the room next to ours that seemed to stay there all day..
No Spaces in car park! They had weddings on and all the guests, including an old fire engine and two ambulances we assume were wedding guest cram in the car park, no room for guests. Sat after eventually having a pretty awful breakfast with toast that had seen the inside of a toaster for 10 seconds, ( next day breakfast I ordered scrambles eggs as they only put out friend eggs-- 10 mins later had finished my bacon and tomato, no scrambles eggs. Asked someone, came back_ the chef was cooking Poached eggs, but mistake! But now he's doing your scrambles and then a huge plateful of about 6 scrambled eggs appeared far more than one could eat!)
Room change- receptionist agreed it, we agreed they could move our bags, but then when we went to drop off key the cleaners and receptionist arguing about moving our bags! Seems to be no senior management at all, didn't see any staff over 25 years old, so disorganized every which way you turn. Second double room okay, but in both rooms window ledges inside really badly black with mould from metal windows, and oh did I say that we got random hot water, with temp changinga ll the time in shower and other guests complaining they tried to shower at 8 am and water cold, reception told them that guests shouldn't all shower at the same time, and they had run out of hot water as so many had showered? Um, we are paying £90 a night for two people in a tiny room...
Needless to say we will not be going back and will not recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Never take a standard, if you have to stay here make sure you get a first floor "With View"...

We arrived at this hotel on Wednesday 28th May expecting a room with "an outlook onto moorland". Instead of which our room looked over a dirty yard with waste bins, cages of dirty laundry, crumbling walls of the adjoining building and a dirty fire escape. My husband is eighty years old and walks with a stick, I therefore asked where the lift was and was told there was none, it was a listed building and they were not allowed to put in a lift. (I'm not sure if this was a joke). Next morning we waited half an hour to be seated at breakfast. There were countless empty tables but they had not been cleared from the previous diners. One family who complained was told they should have got up earlier as too many people came down at the same time!!!! The rooms were clean and the breakfast was quite good but there were more people there with complaints than you would have found in a general hospital. My sympathies are very much with the staff who continued to the very best of their ability but they were fighting a losing battle. We never actually saw Basil Fawlty but I'm sure he was there somewhere.

Never was I concerned about the health and safety of my partner and I. The hotel is dirty and dangerous. We had rats as pets in the yard, no lights from the car park to the room, dangerously slippery steel steps, dirt and machinery parts all over the yard. The food was stored in the yard with all the rats and mice.the reception desk was unattended and once they arrived very unpleasant and unprofessional. This is the world's worse hotel with unparalleled to it in the world.it is a shame to the UK.
