Tuesday night @ 8pm for 2. Busy tea time serving reducing to 1/3 covers by 8:30.

Prompt service at start - welcomed to table by very friendly staff. Drinks order taken and delivered within 5mins.

Food order taken:

Appetisers: These arrived surprisingly late at 8:35 but were tasty and well prepared.
Starters: Arrived at 8:50 (we were concerned about the speed of delivery at this point)
1 x PORTOBELLO AL FORNO (very tasty - hot and well presented - meaty and hearty mushroom in a sizzling cheesy dish )
1 x MUSSELS ALLA MARINARA (tasty but served in a cold bowl - outer mussels were cold and inner mussels were barely warm. Waitress informed but there was no feedback as to whether the chef was informed and no apology. Some slices of chilli were nearly 1/2 cm thick which does not allow for any flavour to impart to the sauce and acts as a real surprise when you discover it hidden in the sauce). 4 of 12 mussel shells were shattered on delivery to table.
Main Courses:
1 x TERRINA FRUTTI DI MARE - VERY tasty seafood stew with a rich and 'bisque-y' sauce. At £14 I had hoped to enjoy the Seabass element a little more but was disappointed by the shavings of fish flesh that were included. Clams were hard to identify once they had fallen out thier shell.
1 x RISOTTO PESCATORE - very tasty seafood risotto which was seriously lacking in seafood. As with the Terrina - the clams were smaller than a five pence piece.
Both main course dishes arrived within 15mins of the starters. However, the Risotto was sat on the pass for a good five minutes before the Terrina was ready and the chefs needed to call service 3 times before the pass was approached by the waiter serving us for this course.

Meal came to £45 with a 25% food discount (voucher). We will return to give it a second chance.

In summary:
Service - slow but friendly enough
Food - tasty but new dishes are unrefined and there are pass to table timing issues resulting in temperature problems
Value - Food bulked out by inexpensive ingredients and shelfish of variable quality. Drinks standard pricing for chain restaurants.
Atmosphere - very bubbly when busy - dominated by bussing serving staff when quiet
Romance - KippaxEater can romance just about anywhere ;)
Special occasions - Great for bigger tables

Hope this helps - would welcome discussion or feedback from ASK Italian, will amend review if they do.

Awesome, modern looking place. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and the foot sublime.
My only complaint was that there was no parking, but this wasn't much problem with Wetherby being so small!

The service was good and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. In terms of decor, the venue is pretty flat and uninspiring, but not even close to as flat and inspiring as the food. I picked a £14 main expecting something more exciting than some of the safer, traditional Italian mains, and was left frustrated we had visited another bland, chain restaurant; I don't understand how they could sap so much flavour and finesse from ingredients with so much potential. So, we've vowed never to go back to ask Italian again, I could cook better at home.

After reading the latest reviews we were not expecting much on our visit - especially after trying to get a table a couple of weeks ago & being told that the kitchen was closed for an hour for them to get restocked. We were pleasantly surprised. The waitress was very attentive despite it being very busy - and we weren't kept waiting for our food. The food itself was very fresh and tasty and we will definately visit again.

Having lived in Wetherby a while, we had been to Ask a few times, but not for a couple of years as it often looks quite empty. However, there is a lovely outside seating area which is comfortable with an enjoyable view, which is why we decided to go on a very sunny afternoon.

We went for lunch, and although the outside area was almost full, there were just a couple of tables in use inside. We sat down having booked a table outside at 1pm, and waited what seemed like a very long time for anyone to notice us and ask for drinks, but then two people came one after the other. We then ordered our mains and some nibbles. The nibbles were delivered promptly and were warm and fresh. However, after the nibbles were delivered, it took approximately 45 minutes for the main course to arrive. Large Peroni bottles are priced at £6.10, which I thought was a little on the expensive side, having offered no draught alternative.

The main courses were all fine taste and temperature wise, but the service was slow and difficult to get the attention of. It took some time for them to clear our plates after the main and order our desserts, the honeycomb cheesecake being one of my favourites. Whether it was the heat of the day or not being in the fridge, the cheesecake was particularly soft and not well presented as it sagged on the plate, but still tasted good.

Wouldn't recommend if in a hurry!
