We liked the location and standard but were initially worried by the bad reviews a year ago.

We needn't have worried. The staff were very helpfull and freindly, the room excellent (we were told they were all revamped recently) and the food we had in the restaurant was very good.

We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay.

Directions were good and the hotel easy to find.

I recently visited this hotel on a corporate visit, because we were thinking of doing business with them. The hotel staff took us into rooms that were OCCUPIED - suitcases open on the bed, toiletries in the bathroom... Frankly it made me extremely uncomfortable and if it had been me staying in the room, I would have been horrified at my privacy being invaded like that... Nothing was touched and we were chaperoned at all times, but I would not feel confident staying in this hotel knowing that visitors would be taken into my personal space while I was out...

I have no idea why the person wrote the review that they wrote earlier on...this hotel is a B&B in its worst form! I am afraid I have seen even better B&Bs than this one...much better ones rather.
It is very dirty and the staff is not helpful at all.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Borough Arms Hotel and Restaurant is one of the oldest established hotels in the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent areas, with history dating back to 1783. The hotel is very much of the style associated with a traditional English town centre coaching inn, yet has been sensitively and subtly refined to offer the comfort and modern standards demanded by today's visitors. Independently owned and managed, the hotel retains many period features and takes great pride in offering a very personal service. As a valued guest, you may be confident that we will do our utmost to ensure your comfort, whether you are staying in one of our 40 centrally heated, en-suite rooms, visiting us for a meal in the restaurant, or using our conference and banqueting facilities. ... more   less
