Holiday Inn Stoke on Trent M6
Reviewed 11 August 2012

Stayed here weekend of 4/5 August 2012 . Our son and nephew were playing in a football tournament at Keele uni so to stop us having to travel both days decided to stay over.
Booking in was friendly and helpful had booked this as bed and breakfast but receptionist stated this wasnt on the system booked room only, disputed this and they were very happy add breakfast..
Rooms were of good standard ,bed really comforable and large, firm or soft pillows.
bathroom good and clean complimentary toiletries. Nice crisp towels.
plenty of hanging space
tea,coffee making facilities.

Added bonus and the reason we booked this hotel were the leisure facilities, thinking that the after a day of running round a pitch chilling in a sauna, jacuzzi ,pool and gym would be extra bonus. which it was and all were clean ,changing facilities excellent girls on front desk helpful.
wife used gym both days says they had all you needed for workout.

Didnt stay here for Dinner ,went to local chinese which was yummy
breakfast was of a good standard full english, fruit yoghurt ,cereal ,toast making facilities
bread ,crossaints helped to fill us up for the busy day ahead (also gave boys enough fuel to play footi for another full day )
all in all good hotel for what we needed ? thinking of returning if go to alton towers would recommend

After deciding to come to Alton Towers for a short getaway we chose this hotel to stay in!! Unfortunately it was a disaster!! The 'double' bed was fit for the borrowers and as for the service in the restaurant...it was horrendous!!! After waiting 30 minutes to order, when there was only 2 tables waiting to be served, we then waited 30 mins on our starters! We were then given chipped wine glasses after having to ask for more drinks!! Starter plates were taken away 30-40 mins later then main courses served 40 mins after that! With various customers chatting and feeling the same way we felt it was appropriate to inform the manager! We were then given a bill with the service charge included! I was then asked what she could do to help the situation!! You know there's something wrong when the manager asks the customer how to solve the problem! Bad times!

We stayed three nights at this Holiday Inn and overall found it a good place to stay. The check in was easy and the staff were very nice, the room was clean as was the toilet and shower. There was a kettle with tea and coffee facilities, and also a bottle of water and the television with free view channels. The breakfast is hot and cold buffet style so you can eat as little or as much as you like. There is also a swimming pool which is also good. The bar is slightly over priced as is the food but you can't complain about the quality or amount.
Defiantly worth a stay especially if you are going to Alton Towers.

Hope this helps.

I stayed here for two nights recently with my daughter and two grandsons for a visit to Alton Towers. The staff were very friendly the room was clean and tidy although a little cramped for four people, the bathroom also was on the small side but adequate but the basin taps didn't work the hot tap dribbled out and the cold tap was very loose, despite mentioning it to reception nothing was done during our two night stay.

Breakfast and dinner were good, although the service was quite slow. The kids had a free buffet with good choice which they enjoyed but had finished eating before we had been served. They had meal deal offers on a the weekend which made eating very reasonable. However this was offset by the bar prices.

There is a lovely pool with hot tub which we all enjoyed, they sectioned off part of the pool for serious swimmers separating them from children. Towels were free and there were free hairdriers and a drying machine for swimsuits which was handy. The only downside was the single changing cubicle.

I would definitely stay again if only for the swimming pool.

This was a return visit for us from about 2 years ago, chosen mainly on the basis of convenience for Alton Towers, rather than the recollection of anything particularly special. In the event, our expectations were exceeded on a number of fronts.

First of all, there are some good packages available, particularly for families (check the website). We chose dinner, bed & breakfast, which seemed to give us quite a good saving, and our accompanying 12 year old ate for free.

Other positive aspects included the friendliness of the staff at reception and in the restaurant, helpful housekeeping, and some excellent dishes in the restaurant. The menu is very traditional - a slightly more adventurous version of Little Chef - but we found the food quality quite exceptional for a Holiday Inn. This included nearly all the courses at the two dinners we had, as well as the breakfasts (be sure to try the sausages!).

The hotel is not much to look at outside, but the setting is rather more pleasant and rural than the proximity of the M6 might lead you to expect. The clientele is a rather unusual mixture of excited small children on their way to or from Alton Towers, and somewhat less excited (and exciting) business people hurrying to the next meeting, syndicate, conference or whatever. The place is generally pretty busy, and you need to remember to book a table for dinner, or you might end up waiting a while. Plenty of secure free parking on site.

The only black mark was for the absence of free WiFi. Even in the public rooms you have to pay, which we think is pretty deplorable in this day and age.

Whilst I stayed in this hotel on business, I could not help but notice on arrival how convenient it was for several family tourist attractions in the area. It is also very convenient for the local hospital, which is just a couple of miles down the road.

Good welcome at the desk, although there was no mention of additional facilities in the hotel. The rooms appear to be on two floors, with a short staircase between them. This could be an issue if you have a big bag. The rooms seemed small for the size of hotel, but were OK in terms of furnishings and clean. I suspect that there has been attention paid to the previous comments on cleanliness, because as I went to dinner, I was surprised to see a member of housekeeping staff cleaning doors and corridor fixtures, not something you usually see in the evening.

Dinner was OK, with the reassurance that it was made to order, as they had run out of asparagus for my chosen dish, but had substituted mushrooms. The waiter was a bit lackadaisical in his attitude, but the waitress was very efficient. Perhaps he was a newer member of staff? Breakfast was standard, although it would have been more professional to be shown to a table rather than a waved hand indicating one of four from which I could choose. Maybe it is male members of staff? On neither occasion was the restaurant particularly busy, so the attitude could not be excused for that reason. There was no butter available, which seemed a bit strange in a chain hotel like this.

Overall, I would use this hotel again. Additional facilities include a pool and a massage therapist, but you would need to book with the latter as she is freelance.

Room Tip: Level 1 rooms appear to be away from noise, but Ground Floor is convenient for the gym/pool

We stopped over one night and it was ok. The lady behind the desk was very helpful and smiley, our room was very clean and had everything you needed. We ate an evening meal there and that was very good but the breakfast was not so good very poor. The only fault I would say is when you are eating dinner/breakfast it would be nice if you are asked if you would like to sit somewhere quite.
