“Great Value for Money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

We stayed at this hotel overnight on 19/20th April 2014. Welcome at reception was great...service at the bar exceptional. Room a little tired but understand new owners are in a period of updating. Indian restuarant next door to be recommended. Breakfast was brilliant with everything you could ask for....
All public areas nicely decorated and clean.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which was nice and quiet....no road noise.

Worst Hotel we have ever stayed at. Started on arrival Reception girl was non committal and ready to go home. Went to room and key did not work, eventually got in room and it was something else to be desired. The bathroom was disgusting, holes around bath and around the floor which should have been filled in, hot water coming out of the cold tap and only one towel between us, no hand towels just one bath towel. The room was very very hot and uncomfortable.as well as not being very clean. The final straw was when we got up in the morning and looked through the window there was rat traps scattered about. Never ever stay again and just want to warn people.

We visited for afternoon tea. Complete shambles from start to finish, the food was in edible, the crockery was dirty, as was the bar where we're served the tea and the staff rude and surely, two have a full blown argument between each other. No body available to take our complaint and after 4 telephone calls they have still not contacted me!! Do not go to this dump!!!!

Had previous good experience of this hotel so was embarrassed after recommending it to family who had travelled from Scotland for my dad's funeral. My 85 year old aunt and her disabled daughter arrived following a tiring journey to be told no booking and no rooms available, even though they had proof of booking and even a welcome message. They were eventually found another hotel at other side of town which was more expensive. They said they'd pay the difference but this, at time of writing hasn't materialised, in spite of apologies and promises by a duty manager . Numerous telephone messages were left by my relations but not returned. Reception staff appeared blank and uncomprehending.
The lack of customer care and follow up is quite unbelievable. Hardly the way to run a business.
DEFINITELY WON'T BE RECOMMENDING IN FUTURE.

For £50 what do some reviewers on this page want. Room was ok, reception was ok, breakfast was actually quite good. Room was a bit tired but everything worked. The lighting in the room and bathroom was not best for seeing in the mirrors when getting ready for a night out. We would stay here again for the night ....

Room Tip: We had room 14 which was fine ....

Stayed in this hotel for one night as it was close to Alton towers. Arrived there to find a receptionist who was miserable and couldn't crack a smile. Off we went to our room to find a cracked window, bins still full in the room and the bathroom. Not a beautiful site to see of sanitary towels and egg sandwiches! The window ledge was full of dust and the pictures were borderline hanging off the walls. When it finally came to going to bed around half 11 the fire alarm went off TWICE due to a 40th party using smoke machines !! After complaining for the second time it finally quietened down. The next morning using the showers it basically snapped off the holder !! Breakfast was awful, definitely all the cheap stuff! Couldn't wait to leave the next morning! Definitely never again!!

I booked this hotel last minute when we decided to stay closer to Alton Towers.
We arrived about 1.30am on a saturday morning, and the night porter was there before i even had a chance to call him.

The room was perfectly ample for the price, comfortable bed and awesome shower! yes, there may have been some marks on the wall from carelessness when moving furniture - but realistically let's face it - how does this actually affect your stay?
Breakfast was really good - massive fry up - what better way to start the day :)

I also managed to do the typical travellers error and forget toothpaste - asked the guy on reception if we could get some and he said he would send it up... I then got a call from the nearby petrol station where someone had gone totally out of their way to go and BUY some for us, asking if we needed toothbrushes, too. Talk about going beyond the call of duty!

I paid £39 for a double room including breakfast. I genuinely cannot complain. Staff were polite, sheets were clean, breakfast was great and we were half an hour away from Alton Towers.

I am a true believer in 'you get what you pay for' so didnt have massive expectations like most seem to have - but i was certainly not disappointed. Would stay again and most likely will.

Room Tip: I had room 8
