“A perfect honeymoon hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

We stayed at The Cranleigh for four nights following our wedding and it couldn't have been more perfect. We had booked the Hideaway, but on arrival were upgraded free to The Sanctuary. This room is absolutely amazing, so many special features, such a relaxing atmosphere and as it is separate from the main hotel feels very private. The hot tub was a real treat! The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and was delivered to the room every morning at a time of our choosing and the evening turning down service, we thought, was a lovely touch. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, not that we had many queries as there was ample information in the room about all the services and features. We hope very much to stay at The Cranleigh again in the near future.

Room Tip: The Sanctuary is a lovely quiet and private room.

We had 4 lovely nights at the Cranleigh,we had picked Room 15 but were upgraded to Room 16 with a lovely Jacuzzi bath with integrated T.V on the wall. Friendly staff, immaculately clean rooms with very individual themes in each room. Turn down service in the evening with a bottle of water and a wee chocolate on your bed was a really nice touch. As for the breakfasts, where do I start? Very friendly, attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. My husband loved the Full English breakfast every morning, again immaculate presentation and very quick service.
Only minus was the lady in the room next door using her Jacuzzi bath from 11pm until midnight on our last night! Overall,a brilliant short break,we will be back.

Having decided at the last minute to spend a night away, the Cranleigh did not disappoint!! Having looked at various options on where to stay, I am so glad we decided on the Cranleigh.
From the minute we arrived we were impressed. Check-in was as smooth as can be and we were escorted to our room. Having chosen a luxury room from the impressive in-depth videos on their website, the room was as wonderful as it had looked on the video.
Had a lovely meal out at a local restaurant which had also been recomended by the receptionist. Returning to the hotel we took advantage of their impressive DVD collection (an added bonus!!). Breakfast was relaxed and both food and service was great.
Have stayed a few times in Bowness over the years, but will definitely be returning to the Cranleigh in the near future.

We stayed at the Cranleigh from 1st Aug for 3 nights.

It was a surprise for my husband i just wished i had preorded some of the little extras like rose petals or champagne. The hotel itself is absolutley gorgeous and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hardest decision i had was which room to choose - guess we will have to return to sample the other rooms may have to save up for the sanctuary.

The rooms are very well equiped with all the mod cons and luxuries to make it a home from home. If it rains during your stay dont worry the DVD library and spa baths will keep you occupied.

We were lucky enough to have lovely warm weather and could get out and about. Its a short walk into Bowness and there are so many lovely restaurants to eat at. We look forward to returning again soon.

We stayed in the Hideaway suite on my birthday, I had booked suite 10 but my other half surprised me with an upgrade. When we arrived we were shown around the GORGEOUS room and talked through everything. The whole place was beautiful, especially the bathroom.

We ordered our breakfast to be delivered to our room the next morning, got some DVDs from the DVD library for later and then headed out to Holbeck Ghyll for champers and afternoon tea (another birthday surprise!). When we returned my boyfriend had organised champers on ice, chocolates, petals on the bed and the most beautiful bouquet ever….whoever the hotel use should be credited for their flowers, lovely!!! Following my surprise, the biggest one of all followed, a proposal!!! The Hideaway suite will forever now be in my heart, and what a gorgeous place to spend our first night engaged. Brilliant double bath, lovely little outdoor seating area, fabulous Ipod dock that you can play music around the room, three TVs, great mini bar, perfect!

There was one criticism, the room got far far far too hot. There was a little cooler in the wardrobe which we got out, but it didn’t cool the room enough and it was noisy, so three hours sleep for me... I really hope that to get absolute perfection, the hotel address this with some air con. Wouldn’t be a problem when the weather is the usual UK weather, but when it is muggy, it is not ideal! I admit I was gutted to have such a terrible sleep in such a gorgeous room.

There was WIFI in the hotel but it did play up in the evening.

We had a lovely breakfast delivered to the room the next day, and then, another surprise, the owner had champagne on ice delivered to us to congratulate us on our engagement.

When we left we adopted the lovely bear as a memory of our stay. We will 110% definitely be back to this wonderful hotel, which is now so special to us.

I recommend to all.

We thank you very much for reviewing the Cranleigh. We are pleased to hear that you would recommend us and I would like to address some of the points raised. We can only apologise for the ashtray, frayed towels and breakfast. In almost all cases our breakfast experience has been positive. In relation to the towels we have replaced them and the ashtray has been a housekeeping matter which has been addressed internally and we agree is unacceptable. As you will see we get 5 star throughout for our housekeeping and cleanliness and we are graded over 95% from both Visit Britain and AA for our cleanliness therefore this has been a genuine oversight. The Cranleigh guesthouse is situated in a very good location and room rates within the area for all quality guesthouses and hotels are above average for the country, this is due to them being in the Lake District. We are not sure how you have booked with us however, your review reads like you have booked through a third party booking site. When booking through one of these sites, the customer needs to be aware that they are controlled by the operators not by the establishments. What this means is that what you see is limited as these sites are all about selling rooms so they get paid commission. With a product like the Cranleigh it is very difficult for you as a customer to see exactly what we have to offer when using one of these sites. What we mean by this is if you went on to our website and looked at Room 10 you would see a large selection of photographs and a 1 minute video showing you the room in detail. Therefore being able to see exactly what it is that you are booking with the facilities in that room, where it is located etc. I have always believed from the outset that providing the customer with visual and detailed information will avoid such occurances. Suite 10 is a ground floor room with its own private entrance, we apologise that ladders and piping were left at the rear of the hotel however we did have some work going on in a neighbouring property. These have now been removed. With regard to the shower, again this is clearly shown and explained that there is only an air spa bath with handheld shower in this suite and again I strongly recommend here for anyone reading this review, to book the accommodation directly with the establishment. In relation to your other comments about ipod docking stations, turndown service etc, the turndown service does not just consist of a bottle of water and a chocolate, it is where a member of staff tidies your room and bathroom and replenishes towels etc. With regard to the media items that are in the rooms, these are provided for customers who wish to either stay in their room because of weather or have just come away to relax and want these facilities. We thank you again for your comments.

We were very impressed by the Cranleigh as a base for Bowness and Windermere on foot and for exploring the Lake District as a whole. Rooms are stylish and modern but what really helps are the staff with advice from reception on places to visit, things to do and local walks, through to the breakfast and from staff. It has a very positive and relaxing feel.

The one key tip is to be aware of limited car parking spaces at the hotel itself ( although this appears a common issue in Bowness hotels). However, they have a few extra spasces just offsite which worked fine for us.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Re car parking. We have 18 rooms in total and 14 car parking spaces on site. We also have another 8 spaces off site about 150 yards away. Therefore we have 22 spaces for 18 rooms. Hope to see you again soon. The Cranleigh team.

First time in Bowness for thirty years for us, we were there as a couple of teenagers last time.
Hotel was lovely and clean, lovely welcome from our host, we stopped in the adjacent house to the reception in one of the special rooms, champagne on ice when we arrived pre-booked.
enjoyed the afternoon and evening, lots of shops, bars and restaurants, went on a boat trip around the lake windermere, had a lovely evening meal in an Italian, good value for money and excellent service.
The breakfast next morning was thoroughly enjoyable, lovely smiling staff, very attentative,
albiet we only stopped the one night I would definately go back to the Cranleigh.

Room Tip: go online to view all the rooms, look out for special deals.
