“Enjoyable weekend in Bowness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2012

We recently spent the weekend at The Cranleigh (room 13 on the 13th would you believe!) and we really enjoyed every minute of it ... Well apart from getting locked in the bathroom because the door handle didn't work too well! We also used the voucher scheme, and I suppose it could be described as expensive, as indeed was Bowness in general, but as my wife pointed out we were paying for a high quality service all round, and that is exactly what we got. It is interesting to note that people make the effort to return to this particular establishment - perhaps they could introduce a 'Stay three times and get one night free' scheme?

Having read of all of the reviews, I feel like a bit of a 'party pooper', but wouldn't want to put anyone off staying! This is just a very honest review. We had a lovely enjoyable stay, but felt a tad cheated as we stayed on a deal where we paid £199 and the voucher was meant to be worth over £400. When I called to book, there was very limited availability (down to a few dates available), and we had to pay an additional £50 to use the voucher which would have to include a Friday night. If we hadn't paid for 'a deal' we could probably have had a free choice of dates for a small amount more. So I felt a little cheated to start off with, but we decided to make the best and was encouraged by the reviews. We had a lovely friendly reception, and were shown to a ground floor room in the annex. The room was quite small with little room to move about, but that was probably because it was so well equipped - with lovely additional touches. As others have reported, there was some room to room noise and the busy road adjacent to us was only really obvious with the windows open. Our most negative points were that the floor in the room sloped quite badly, and we were surprised by the scuffed and badly smelling wardrobe, and damp smell in the bathroom. The slotted wooden blinds were very dusty. We reported the smell to reception and this was resolved quickly, but this didn't aid my partners clothes which were hanging there overnight before we realised. The bed was lovely and clean and so comfortable. The use of the spa and pool was an additional nice touch, as was the boat trip which was included in our price. We wouldn't stay again, but only because of the price and have stayed in comparable places with lake views for much less. Great staff though and an overall very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the rooms at the front of the hotel on the busy road.

We stayed 2 nights in room 12, which was lovely and peaceful and then for our last night we checked into the Sanctuary suite - which was awesome after a day climbing Scafell Pike, we returned to the Sanctuary suite, the fire place was on and we had champagne on ice, then we were able to enjoy the secluded hot tub. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful with our weird and wonderful requests, they even kindly printed out the driving route to Scafell Pike. We also used the swimming pool facilities at the McDonald hotel a short walk away, which was a nice extra to have the option of a relaxing swim. We can't wait to return and maybe try the hideway next time!

Room Tip: Room 12 located on the top floor, and overlooking the direction of the Lake, is very quiet.

This is the second time we have stay at the Crainleigh and it won’t be our last I love this guesthouse. My husband and I stayed in the hideaway, to sum it up quickly... PURE LUXURY!!!! The guesthouse is less than a minutes’ walk away from the centre of Bowness, but still manages to be peaceful and relaxing. The Crainleigh offers plenty of parking and the additional parking is so close it could be onsite. The hideaway is soooo nice I didn’t want to leave! The room is perfectly setup but the bathroom is where I spent most of my time. The bath WOW!! The biggest bath I have ever been in, complete with bubbles and lights and a telly just to add to the perfection. The showers are fantastic too they even have their own fancy lights on. The all the staff are friendly and extremely helpful. We have used the spa facilities at the McDonald, they are really nice and would recommend getting the couples deep tissue massage. I hate to do this but there was one small negative about the room, it gets very warm even with two fans on full. I realise that is partly due to where the room is situated but a small air conditioning unit (I realise they are not very pretty) above the TV in the bedroom area would eradicate this issue. Thank you Crainleigh for another lovely stay.

Recently stayed in the hide away room, the best hotel room I've ever stayed in, check in was nice and easy and the receptionist was very helpful and friendly, she showed us to our room and showed us around. The room was amazing and well orth the price, because we where in the hide away suite we could order breakfast to the room, which we did. There was plenty of breakfast delivered and was very nice. This is a excellent guest house and in a great location only a few minutes walk to the town centre. The place to go to treat the wife.

We stayed here for one night at the beginning of July in Luxury Room 9. Everything from the room to the breakfast and service was first class. Location was spot on too. We are going back in August to the same place. Would thoroughly recommend for a luxurious stay.

This was our second trip to the Cranleigh and it certainly wont be our last. We love the place, the rooms are all gorgeous, the service is great - nothing is too much trouble and the team are really professional, and the breakfast is brilliant. The rooms are all modern and luxurious - its a real treat to stay there!
