“The Sanctuary @ The Cranleigh - WOW !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

We were VERY fortunate to have the pleasure of staying in The Sanctuary at The Cranleigh on Weds 6th March 2013.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Emma. She arranged for our Daughter and her Husband to be taken to room 5 where they were spending the night and then personally took us herself straight to The Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is a seperate annexe to the rear of the property. Upon entering The Sanctuary you can see why the owners have named it so. We stepped into the room and felt the amazing warmth of the roaring fire (remote controlled no less) and there was soft classical music (courtesy of Radio 3) playing through the in room Bose Surround Sound System (Luckily I own the same at home so was able to use it with ease).

Emma showed us every single feature and function of the room including the electrically operated blinds for the Velux Roof Lights, how the Fire worked, how the amazing lighting system worked, showed us the mini bar and the fantastic hot tub and explained that if we so wished we could have our breakfast in our suite.

Just as she was leaving she pointed out the very gratefully received complimentary bottle of champagne in the ice bucket that had been very kindly arranged for our arrival.

As soon as Emma left we called our daughter and her husband using the in room telephone and asked them to join us for a glass of champagne and we shared out the complimentary hand made Cranleigh chocolates.

Our daughter and her husband decided to return to their room for a rest as we had had a long day and were due to be eating out at 8PM. We decided to rest on the sumptuous sofa/love seat and watch a bit of TV whilst finishing off the Champagne. Next thing I know it's around 7PM as I have dozed off in the warmth of the fantastic fire that I mentioned earlier.

This "room" (seems ridiculous to call it a room actually as it is almost a cottage really), is so cozy and the bed and pillows and bedding are the most comfortable I have ever experienced. I felt like a king propped up on my pillows in that room. I loved the pillows so much I had a peek inside the pillow case to find out the make (Dunlopillo Latex Foam if you are interested), and decided I would be purchasing a few for home !

There is no doubt that The Sanctuary is an amazing accommodation in the Lake District. It is set perfectly, just a few minutes walk from Lake Windermere and is THE perfect place for a romantic night in the Lakes. If you can afford a week in The Sanctuary then go for it and fair play to you !

Our daughter and her husband also LOVED room 5 and are already talking about booking again.

Breakfast was lovely and the 4 of us had a lovely table right in the window. All of the Breakfast Room staff were very friendly and the food was perfect.

I can definitely recommend a stay at The Cranleigh and obviously definitely The Sanctuary.

It may not be the cheapest place to stay in the Lakes but to be fair there is good reason for that.

My husband and I have just got back from staying at the cranleigh for our 1st wedding anniversary this was our 2nd visit we went for the first time just after our wedding last year! I have looked forward to returning since then... We stayed in suite 10 this time which was absolutely out of this world! So romantic the perfect setting to enjoy each others company! Everything at the cranleigh exceeds expectations, staff are attentive but not overbearing but would go out of their way to please the guests, breakfast is delicious and also well presented with lots of choice. The location is perfect just a short stroll from the beautiful lake. I can't wait for our next visit to another of the stunning rooms, although my hubby fell in love with the airspa bath so we might be returning sooner rather than later :-D

Stayed for two nights in The Hideaway (Rm 17). Amazing private room with own entrance at the back of the hotel. Breakfast delivered each morning to the room. Everything you could wish for for a romantic break.

Arrived at the hotel and was staying in the Sanctuary suite.Greeted by friendly and helpful reception staff and showed to our beautiful suite, away from the main hotel. The fire was roaring and sherry had been provided to welcome us in the room. The suite is simply stunning, immaculately clean and every last detail has been thought of.There is a fantastic bathroom with clear glass bath and mood lighting throughout and the shower was heavenly, even a tv to enjoy whilst soaking!Outside is your private hot tub which had been fully prepared for us,even in the chilly March air this was lovely experience.Breakfast was served in privacy of our own room and was fantastic, using quality ingredients!A great start to the day!
Hotel is only few minutes walk from the lake and centre of Bowness and we felt fully re charged and rejuvenated after our stay! Am not surprised this hotel has achieved it's recognition of highly commended and 5 star, because they are well deserved.Don't miss an opportunity to stay here, you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Use the access to the £3 million pound newly refurbished spa nearby to hotel.Add a bottle of house c...

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here on a 2 night discounted deal and had a lovely time. I would say if I had paid the full price which is £165 a night (we stayed in room 13 superior room) then I think I would have been quite disappointed. The room is facing the main road and it does get quite noisy from the cars driving past early in the morning so no good if you want a lie in! The rooms themselves are fab and the bathroom is to die for but I have to say the walls are quite thin between rooms. I could hear next doors conversation so obviously they could hear ours, not good if you want a romantic night ;) The breakfasts are great, plenty to eat and the location is great too, within easy walking distance of bars and restaurants. We also took advantage of the Cranleigh guests being able to use the leisure facilities at the Mcdonald hotel which is 2 minutes walk away. This is a spa hotel but has no Jacuzzi!! Strange! All in all we had a great time but I don't think we would return at full price.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the rear of the hotel if you want a lie in!

This seems to be a very popular hotel at the moment and I certainly see what all the fuss is about. If you're looking to go away with you're other half for a romantic and relaxing escape away, in luxurious and high class surroundings... this is the place for you!! The Suite (room 10) was decorated beautifully and everything was crystal clean. The subtle little touches (i.e - complimentary chocolates on the pillow) make your stay feel just that little bit more special. Service was second to none, staff couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was good, with a wide selection of dishes to cater for everyone.
Things to note, room 10 has a wonderful double jacuzzi bath tub which is the perfect way to relax. The tub does take a long time to run due to the size of it so plan your bathe in advance!
Cannot wait to stay here again!!!

Room Tip: The Suite - Room 10

This B&B deserves every excellent review it gets. The décor is luxurious, the staff are welcoming and the breakfast is lovely.

The Sanctuary suite itself is out of this world. I first saw the suite on the internet and thought it was impressive but when you first walk through the door it really does have the wow factor. You will spend the first few hours of your stay just wandering round the suite investigating all the luxury touches this place has. From the massive TV, the comfiest bed I’ve slept in, the space age bathroom and not forgetting the private hot tub.

If you are thinking of booking this suite I would definitely recommend the extras we had champagne, chocolates and adopted a teddy bear.

Not the cheapest but definitely the best.
