Stayed at the Cranleigh for a two night break recently to celebrate a birthday. The location is absolutely perfect, just a couple of minutes walk into Bowness where there are a number of quality restaurants, tea rooms, pubs and shops. On-site parking was available, and we had no problem securing a space during our stay. The hotel itself was well furnished and spotlessly clean throughout. We upgraded to a superior room, which although was quite compact with limited storage space, was more than adequate for a long week-end stay. Our bedroom was nicely furnished with a luxury bathroom and finishing touches to make our stay just that extra bit special - bath robes, tea/coffee making facilities, bathroom essentials (soap, shampoo, etc.), dvd player with a choice of dvd's, and rose petals on the bed, and although we were facing the main road, there was no noise nuisance. We noted that noise seemed to carry between rooms and on occasion, we could hear our neighbours (above and next door) talking and watching TV but this did not disburb us in the least. Breakfast was excellent - cereals, fruit juice, and a choice of hot breakfast - all cooked and served beautifully. Service was excellent throughout from check-in to check-out and NOTHING was too much trouble for any of the staff. All were cheerful, polite and extremely helpful. There are lots of hotels to choose from in Bowness but for that personal touch and great location, the Cranleigh certainly fits the bill.

Great hotel in ideal location in Bowness. Close to centre and restaurants of all ranges. Free access to leisure centre close by. Not often you can go outside the city to get a taste of luxury.
Would recommend without hesitation.

Room Tip: Stayed in Room 9. Were wary of previous review regarding traffic noise and from adjacent rooms. No...

We stayed at the Cranleigh for 2 nights as part of a spring package they were offering - we paid £269 for 2 nights in a luxury room with champagne in our room on the first night and cruise tickets for Lake Windermere.
The Cranleigh was very easy to find in an excellent position in Bowness, close to the lake. There is plenty of parking, but the rear carpark is very cramped and be warned if you park at the back you will get blocked in. They have made good use of the space they have however.
While we were parking a member of staff came out to make sure we were managing ok, and also took our name so she could have our check-in things ready - an excellent first impression! Check-in was professional, swift and very friendly. The foyer looked very welcoming with big leather sofas and an open fire. We were then taken to our room which was in the adjacent building. We had room 16, which is listed as a luxury room. First impressions of our room was that it was a lot smaller than it appeared in the pictures on the website, but perfectly formed. The furnishings and fabrics and general finish are pure luxury. The bathroom blew us away! Long, deep jacuzzi bath, mood lighting, underfloor heating and designer fixtures and fittings and a mirrored TV over the bath.
Now, the only real downside for us was the bed, and the reason I haven't given a 5 star rating. The beds have a thick memory foam topper on, which we hated. I appreciate that a bed is a very personal choice, but we found the beds far too soft and hot, and slept very badly both nights.
Breakfast was superb. The usual continental choices of fruits, pastries, cereal and yogurts, plus the cooked menu. Full cooked breakfasts are available, and also choices such as boiled eggs, eggs benedict etc. The eggs benedict was the best I'd ever had!
After a lovely day out, we returned to our room to find water pouring from the bathroom light. We called reception, and they arrive almost instantly, took stock and left. 3 minutes later they called to offer us a room upgrade to a suite, which we accepted.
Room 10 has it's own front door and veranda and is extremely spacious with a lovely sitting area in the big bay window. We personally found the room lacking in privacy as there are lots of big windows and it is in a prominent position - would have preferred to have venetian blinds instead of the roman blinds that are there. The bathroom was impressive, but the enormous air-spa bath took forever to fill, and there is no shower as such, just a shower head on a hose. So for us personally, we preferred room 16 rather than the suite. The heating didn't work in the bedroom, but they had provided 2 plug-in radiators.
So, all in all we were extremely impressed with the Cranleigh. It is hands down the nicest place we have ever stayed. The attention to detail from the staff is superb - nothing is too much trouble for them. We would love to stay again, but the only thing that would prevent us would be the beds, we just didn't like them, but like I say that is a personal choice.
Thank you Cranleigh for making our wedding anniversary treat one to remember!

My wife and I stayed here for the second time and we once again opted for a luxury room. We were once again delighted by the high standards set in all areas of the guest house operation.

The standard of service you receive at reception is excellent. The staff are friendly, professional and very accommodating. This service is also extended at breakfast where the service is friendly and efficient. The standard of food served at breakfast is excellent and the choice of food on offer is very good.

The room was spotless as expected and the bathroom was well stocked with quality soaps and bath robes. The Cranleigh make you feel special and this is why we go there. At night, you even get your bed turned down with a chocolate left on your pillow.

Thank you once again and we will see you again soon.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Cranleigh twice now and can't wait to go back for a third time.

We booked the romantic break this time which meant we had an ice cold bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room. When we enquired, the room we wanted was unavailable but after a little rearranging they managed to get us in which was so good of them. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Room 5 is our favourite!

The breakfast is lovely and the morning staff can't do enough for you.

The location of the hotel is perfect with some lovely bars an restaurants within a minutes walking distance (we love Bodega and Jacksons Bistro). They also have lots of information in reception on local walks and they will photocopy the route maps for you. We recommend the Bowness to Ambleside walk which is about 3.5 - 4 hrs leisurely pace.

Guests of the Cranleigh also have the use of the Macdonald Spa which is great. It's very stylish and recently refurbished. You can use the gym and the pool facilities along with the steam room, sauna and ice room!

All in all the Cranleigh is our perfect hotel and number one choice for a relaxing, comfortable and romantic break. We can't wait to go back again!

we won a one night luxury room break at the cranleigh through facebook, we decided to extend to a two night break, however due to date restrictions on both sides this meant downgrading to a superior room. we stayed in room 11 on a sunday monday night early march. room was smaller than expected but beautifully decorated. tea/coffee supplies in the room were standard, and we could go and have complimentary tea/coffee at reception whenever we felt. the bathroom was amazing, the air spa bath with underwater lighting and wall monted tv was wonderful. breakfast was lovely with excellent service. over all a wonderful experience.
