“A lovely little treat”
Reviewed 28 April 2009

We stayed in room 12, the decor was beautiful , the bed was really comfortable, and the bathroom was sheer luxury (until the toilet seat came off in my hand- to which reception were unsurprised and told us it would be fixed after our departure!!!! When you consider the cost and surroundings I expected better service and be told when checking in that there was a problem with the room). However, apart from that i really really enjoyed, and would recommend The Cranleigh to couples seeking a romantic getaway.
The bathroom with Spa bath was a lovely treat and plenty big enough for two, high quality towels and plush bath robes. The bed was really high quality and the bedding was sumptious.
There is no bar, but drinks will be served to your room or there is a small garden area to sit out if the weather is fair.
I have just one other little complaint... which is a bit sad on my part but i will mention it- The bedroom had a massive LCD television, and there was another one in the bathroom, but there was only analogue TV- not even channel 5. So although you had these extra luxuries, there wasnt anything to watch!
We stayed for only one night and did loved it, will definately return and try another of the bespoke rooms -not to mention the incredible breakfast!

Thank you for your review, we value all comments received from our guests. To note, the Lake District has never been able to receive channel 5 however, the Lake district will be going digital in July this year giving access to more channels. We have a huge selection of DVD's to choose from at The Cranleigh details of which will have been pointed out to you when you arrived and the list is within your room information pack. We apologise for the problem with the toilet seat, we do our very best to sort out any problems as soon as we can. Thanks again and we hope to see you again.

This B&B is exactly what I wanted. It was chic and trendy but not pretentious at all. The following were bonuses from our stay this weekend:
- great rooms, and fantastic deco
- very comfortable bed (fluffly pillows and duvet)
- spa bath with tv!
- great breakfast
- very convenient location
- friendly service

Though I loved the place, I note the following:
- breakfast was between 8.30am -9.30am only - so if you want to sleep in, you will miss breakfast.
- tv only has 5 channels - however, there is a free DVD selection and you're not really there to watch TV.
- no candles for the bath (yes, I'm being super picky now)

We booked the Cranleigh for a long weekend (3 nights). The room we were in was well designed and clean (as was the bathroom), although the room was small. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was giving my wife ideas as to how to redecorate when we got home (and did come with a TV). The internet connection was fast enough, but wired rather than wireless. Surpisingly the TV only had four terrestrial channels, but the DVD loans helped redress this (plus, no-one goes to the Lake District to watch telly anyway). Staff were helpful, as was the information pack in the rooms. Breakfast was well cooked on all three days, with a good selection (eg salmon and eggs as an alternative to full English), although at times service was slightly confused (possibly as so many staff were on duty). The location was good, five minutes walk away, if that, from where the lake cruisers set off and from lots and lots of restaurants. Overall, both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and, if we return to Bowness, would certainly reconsider staying here again.

My husband booked this hotel as a suprise for my birthday, and i wasnt disappointed. The hotel is within a 1 to 2 minutes walk from the centre of Bowness. We stayed in the "Delux" room which was very well presented, and the bathroom was amazing as well. The staff were very friendly and were always on hand for your needs. They have menus for a lot of the restaurants in Bowness, We went to The Postilion Restaurant, a 3 course meal for £15.95, the food was fantastic. Look out for the Knickerbocker Glory (it wasnt in a tall glass either) it was to die for.. Overall a fantastic stay and we would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have just returned from a one night stay with my boyfriend in a luxury room. Have to say how friendly and helpful the staff were, especially Tony who recommended an excellent italian in town and was more than happy to help. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed and the spa bath was amazing, the tv at end of the bath was a great feature! The DVD's were a nice touch, great choice!
Unfortunately we didn't try out the leisure facilities just up the road but we will be on our next visit.
We will definately be returning, hopefully to try out the retreat!
