“Perfect friendly happy great .....”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

From the moment I walked through the door to the last moments of my stay I felt like a family member and loved.
The Fairfield is lovely, fantastic sized rooms, friendly owners beautiful grounds , fresh happy breakfast room friendly staff.
I was lucky enough to have stayed in the penthouse what a great room massive shower separate WC, romantic lighting, wonderful big towels, king size bed, surround sound music system big screen TV air conditioning / heating . ( wish I had company that night) :(
Easy off street parking.
A short but steep walk into Windermere with it beautiful lake .
I was so pleased to find Fairfield House & gardens.
Remember please mention my name to Mine hosts Tony & Liz.

Room Tip: just stay here its fantastic.

This place ticks all the boxes. Tony and Liz have done a remarkably good job in presenting this superb B&B in its best light. Our arrival was a warm and welcome from Tony and nothing was too much trouble for him during our stay.

Fairfield House is situated close to the centre of Bowness in Windermere and it is an easy downhill walk from there to the centre of town and the restaurants. One word of caution - after you've been into town and had a good meal with a couple of bevvies, it's a killer walk back up the hill !! Our room was spotless and a credit to whoever serviced it so superbly each day.

Breakfasts are tasty and well presented, the guy (I didn't learn his name) who runs the breakfast room was very attentive and looked after us very well indeed. There are well maintained gardens at the back of the house which are available for use by smokers or anyone wishing to eat breakfast in the sunshine. In the evenings, Tony is happy to serve drinks in the Lounge at prices not greatly removed from what you would pay in a licenced restaurant.

As the house is set well back from the road, there is little or no noise from the passing traffic even with a fairly steep hill just outside.

The next time we are in the Lake District we'll be sure to stay there again.

Room Tip: None really - all the rooms seem to be as good as each other

Managing a large Trust mansion in Northumberland and having to save carefully for such excursions our expectations tend to be high! Not disappointed. Very friendly reception on arrival with an honest and open attitude! I take a bit of getting used to but both Tony and his wife, sorry hopeless remembering names, made us feel very welcome. Lovely evening on the first day so requested a bottle of red wine. Tony went to the extra length of explaining why listed reds were not available, due to supplier issues, but brought bottles out to us in the garden where we selected and consumed an excellent Merlot. More to come, breakfast! The best I've had for years and, again, excellent service. The breakfast the second day confirmed the quality and we were more than happy even after waiting nearly an hour for it! Cannot sing the praise for the Fairfield enough and yes there is better out there, at a cost, and room for small improvements but good grief give them a chance.

Thanks for your review. Fantastic that we were able to exceed your expectations, always hard for one provider assessing another. Not sure what happened with the breakfast, we try to to exceed 20 mins, will loook into that. And of course a glass of wine always helps and the garden is a wonderful place to chill at this time of year. Thanks and Regards.

Just returned from Bowness after staying at Fairfield Guest House for two nights with my husband. We can both honestly say that it is a beautiful place to stay, excellent value for money. We were upgraded on arrival which was a lovely surprise, we were welcomed and given advice on the local area and told to just ask if we needed any further information. The room was lovely and very clean. Breakfast is included and caters for all, excellent choice and service. The location has to be its selling point just 2 minute walk to the centre where there is plenty to do with numerous cafe's, pubs and restaurants. Will definitely be returning and would have no problem recommending to friends. Keep up the hard work, it obviously pays off. Thank you.

Got back from Bowness a few days ago, the Fairfield is a great place to base yourself, close to all the many restaurants, pubs and café's. The owners and staff are very attentive and eager to help, rooms are cleaned daily and the breakfast was great, this is also an animal friendly hotel, we took our dog and she loved it. I really couldn't find a negative thing to say even if i wanted to, an absolute pleasure of a place to stay.

Room Tip: There is a steep hill up to this hotel, those with wheel chairs will need a car.

I can honestly say I have never experienced such rudeness as I did at this below average b&b. We booked this guesthouse as it stated 'pet friendly'. Tolerated is more the word. A welcome leaflet was left in the room explaining the facilities and stating that in good weather breakfast can be served on the terrace. Having our dog with us this seemed the perfect option so we requested this to the restaurant staff. What happened next defies belief.....the owner came out of the kitchen saying 'no we can't'. When challenged with the leaflet that was in the room he snatched it out of my hand and said 'well it's not in your room now'. His manner and tone was aggressive and when he came right up in my face was completely confrontational. Not what you expect from a respectable business based on customer service. His comment that 'this is my house and if you don't like it just leave' was the final straw. For goodness sake we only asked for breakfast outside on a sunny morning! If you can't do it fine but there is absolutely no need for aggressiveness and complete rudeness. We promptly packed our bags and left.... I would never ever recommend this place to anyone wanting a peaceful escape to the lakes....AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. This establishment is not owned by respectable people....Tony's inappropriate behaviour borders on being a thug. On top of this tiny rooms, tiny bathrooms (combined with the fact you could hear the people in the room above going to toilet as if they were in the room with you), worn decor....not worth the money. The absolute worst place I have ever stayed and the most unpleasant people I've ever had the misfortune of meeting...

My wife and I are deeply hurt by this total misrepresentation of what happened. Tripadviser are unable to remove the remarks because they do not conflict with their guidelines. We are very saddened as a result.

We stayed one night at the guesthouse in one of the rooms with the fantastic spa bath. After 4 nights camping our night here was luxury! A warm welcome, great night's sleep and very good breakfast. Can't find fault.

Having your own spa bath is one luxury which we find many guests really enjoy. Just ask if you want to have one in your room and we will make sure you get the right room. These rooms are available on our website, but not all Internet sites. Thanks for your great compliment. Tony.
