“excellent, clean and friendly establishment.”

Me and my wife decided to visit the Lake District this year as a Valentine's treat to one another. We read the reviews for Field House and thought that it sounded like a nice place to stay. We were taken care of from arrival to departure. The place has a lovely, friendly atmosphere and it was immediately apparent that the other guests were enjoying their stay. Collie and Teresa were really helpful both in terms of putting us at ease around the hotel and also giving us tips about activities and places to visit in the surrounding area. The rooms were immaculate, spacious and the decor was lovely. We looked forward to breakfast time as it was cooked nicely and prompt. The dining area was nice and relaxed. We didn't feel rushed like we have in some other places. It was really interesting chatting to Frank (the proprietor) who has a story or two to tell! The location was great (literally two minutes walk to the lake). It was nice being able to go out for a meal and drink and not have to walk far to get back to our room. The restaurants and bars suggested by Teresa ensured that our evenings were really enjoyable. We have visited Bough-ness twice before in the past but having Field House as base made the trip that bit more memorable. We will definitely be returning next year. I Would highly recommend a visit.

Positives:
- Great location, walking distance to the heart of the town and restaurants.
- Staff were pleasant and helpful.
- Nice view of the lake from room (Room 2).
- Tea and coffee making facilities.

Improvements that would ensure we came back again:
- Parking was around the back and then up steep steps. There are only a couple of spaces, so some juggling required.
- Room 2 was very cold. The heater was behind a large sun bed which blocked any heat coming in. It would be better to replace this with a small table and chairs.
- Position of TV cannot be seen when lying in bed.
- The room was not completely ready or serviced - we had no toiletries in one room and biscuits provided were out of date.
- Large portions of the breakfast were microwaved which was disappointing.

Overall we had a pleasant but brief stay, and we would consider staying here again, but with the myriad of options in the Lake District, we might also take a chance at another nearby location.

Room Tip: Room 2 is at ground level (from street) and has a view of the Lake. But is was very cold - the heate...

From knocking on the door to ask for the price, to the moment we left we had a very pleasant and happy experience (even after locking the owner out of the building). This small family run guest house is the ideal getaway offering a homely feel throughout your stay. The staff are all outstanding and could not do enough for you to make your stay the best it could be. All in all this guest house is a must with the great accommodation and friendliness you could not wish for anything better STAY HERE ITS A MUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a 2 day break here when we arrived the car park was round the back of guest house and had a steep climb to entrance my husband walks with a stick so found it difficult to then be put at a room on top floor was a shock for him as they were very narrow in places. The. Owners said that room 2 was available and they moved us there which was appreciated Thanks again

Room Tip: If you have any walking difficulties ask for room 2.

My husband and I have just returned from a four night stay at the Field House to celebrate his birthday. We originally booked for three nights and the owners were very helpful when we asked for an extra night (Saturday). We have stayed in Bowness many times over the years so know it well and this time we were certainly not dissappointed. Nothing was too much trouble for the delightful owners. Our room (room 1) was beautifully appointed and had lovely views of the pier and lake. Only a minites walk from the hussle and bussle of the town and boats, our room was still very quiet and peaceful, the bed and linen were really lovely and spotlessy clean as was the small en-suite. Breakfast time was convenient and of excellent quality, with fruit juice, a choice of cereals and a 'full English' cooked in front of us. Extra toast and preserves were always offered.
The only thing we would have added to our room would have been a small table between the very comfortable chairs in the bay window, on which to write our postcards and to put our drinks down!
Overall, we highly reccommend this lovely establishment and thank Colly, Frank and Theresa for a very pleasant and memorable stay. Thank you again, Debby and Mark.

Room Tip: If possible, choose a room with a lake view. Spectacular!!!

We stayed here two nights as we travelled through the lakes. We had a large room on the top floor overlooking lake windermere through the trees. Even though the hotel is not on the lakeside it was still a good view of the water and boats. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The owners were very relaxed, quite casual, friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast was good, a bit greasy but there was plenty, you didn't go hungry like some other places we have been. Fantastic location. A minute to the shops, pubs and attractions. Perfect for walking in the area. There is parking around the back of the house but only a small place is allocated, the rest is private. Overall its a lovely little guest house and we would be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Large double room on top floor with views of the Windermere
