The guest house was charming, Collette and Frank were very welcoming ,we had booked a lake view room which had stunning views of the lake,, breakfast was very filling and was cooked from fresh for you set you up for the day, ideal location for the Shops, Bars, and Restaurants, the building was very old so stairs were not very wide, so if you find stairs hard book ground floor room,,, would highly recommend cant wait to return ,,,,,,,,,,,,,the budding artist and florist

On the face of it the guest house seemed OK. The room was clean, the breakfast was fine and it is in easy reach of the lake. The problem is the way it is run. Frank (the artist) the man of the house is a very amiable guy who is a nice easy going mine host, but sadly it goes a bit downhill after that. I was not interested in cancelled bookings, the cost of running the place related to me by mine hostess. I was asked to pay by cash which in this day is odd seeing that a payment terminal existed in the lounge/breakfast room. No receipt was given but I wasn't too bothered. Car parking is a bit hit and miss with limited parking at the rear of the property but you can usually get it sorted by deft parking skills. The owners were helpful where possible but the overriding issue of the dialogue on the running of the property is not what is needed. A decision has to be made whether the guest house is being run for the benefit of the owners or their customers. Once that is sorted I think you may find that all will be well.

Room Tip: If you have walking problems ask for the ground floor room as the stairs are steepish and narrow. You may be asked to pay for a lake view. Check beforehand

Unfortunately Field House has the potential to be great and if the chap there was on his own, I'm sure it would be. Be warned by the ladies though, they smoke indoors and there is a constant smell coming up the staircase from their apartment below. They will try and overcharge you and they aren't scared of an argument so be careful, they also forced us to pay by cash... Its a real shame because initially we thought we had landed on a gem of a place and being regulars to the lakes, we were looking forward to making it a regular place to stay. My advice is shop around, it is competitive for a reason... there are better options available.

We stayed at the Field House Guest House for 2 nights and I will never be going back there again. I didn't realise that it was still legal to smoke in doors, so was in for a treat when the hosts were smoking downstairs in their living area, stinking the rest of the place out. We were consistently hassled by the owner regarding other parties cancelling late notice which was also very annoying, as I was not them.

It was also very odd how we did not receive any confirmation when booking the rooms. Had to ring back a few times to confirm that we had actually been booked it. Sure enough we had, but was also odd that we were asked to settle the bill in cash and weren't offered a receipt. Then after the bill was settled, we were told that we owed another £10 per night because we had a lake view. Having had no confirmation of the booking, this was not acceptable. We did not ask for a lake view, nor was it a particularly good view, as the lake is about quarter of a mile aware and theres just was ground behind the hotel. I didn't pay the extra £20, it was essentially daylight robbery.

The plumbing is in the dark ages. Every time upstairs went to the toilet we knew about it, put it that way.

The whole thing was a bitter taste to swallow. Its only saving grace was the breakfast was very nice indeed. But thats it really. Avoid.

Myself and my partner Mark stayed here for 2 nights over this weekend and from arrival to leaving everything about the stay was wonderful. The room we had was beautiful and immaculate in cleanliness the bed was so comfy and extremely large no fighting for space in this one :) The owners were so lovely nothing was any trouble and we felt so relaxed during the whole stay. I was admiring the art work that is displayed throughout the Hotel to then find out Frank one of he owners is the Artist his work is amazing. Breakfast is perfect fresh cooked In front of you and the Music being played adds a lovely relaxed touch to a morning wakening with delicious food served. We stay in The lakes a few times a year and have done so for many years and I would have to say in my experience over those years that this is the BEST one yet and we shall be returning.
Thank you Collette Theresa & Frank for a wonderful stay.
