The tables are beautifully set with linen and candles, the music is soft and ambient, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. All of this sets the stage for the food, which celebrates the best Lake District ingredients alongside hand-picked flavours from around the globe.

We visited Bowness for one evening, Tuesday June 10, the restaurant of our choice was closed, we looked at several others and came across the Fat Olives - looked at the menu outside which looked good but the whole picture from outside didnt do much for me .. HOW WRONG I COULD BE, we went in and were quickly accommodated at a table for 3 soon followed by menus and drinks, the atmosphere was busy and happy. one would have thought it was a Saturday night. Being a veggie I selected a tomato garlic bread followed by an exquisitely and toe curlingly tasty butternut squash and goats cheese cannelloni . . . WOW utterly delicious, service was fantastic, quick but not too quick and delivered by very capable and cheerful staff . . I will never walk past this place again. Very reasonable prices too all washed down with a very nice, very chilled down Pinot Grigio . . Happy Bunny I was

Thank you for your kind comments. Particularly glad our vegetarian food hit the spot. By the way, we are currently decorating outside the property so should look a bit nicer next time you visit

We were staying just a few steps away from this restaurant... After looking on trip advisor & trying to book a couple of other restaurants with no joy as all fully booked we decided to try here... Well we were so glad we did, we arrived before 7pm to take advantage of the early evening offer (excellent value) 2 or 3 courses with wine.... All four of us had different 3 course meals & we all thouroughly enjoyed every bit of them all.... not quite managing to finish the generous portions and wanting to leave room for one of the puds. All meals were freshly cooked, home made & piping hot a must on all counts for us...

We had booked one of the other restaurants for the next night but cancelled & returned to Fat Olives as WE ALL enjoyed it so much. Will definately return when back in Bowness.....

Didn't eat here. Would never give this place my custom in the future. We are holidaying in the lakes and asked if we came in early would they mind not lighting the candles as my baby is oxygen dependant at the moment. Manager said no. Poor show wasn't asking them to move heaven and earth. Hope they are never in the same boat themselves one day.

This is grossly unfair! the lady popped in and said could we not light the candles while her baby was in as an open flame was a fire risk. I said that we could do this in one section of the restaurant but she said, no the whole restaurant. As we have an open kitchen with open flames on the gas cookers, this would have not been possible. We are really nice people and do try to accommodate where possible, but as any open flame was a fire risk, how could we possibly have done what she asked.

Whilst staying in Bowness for the weekend, we called impromptu at Fat Olives for late lunch on Saturday. We had soup of the day (pea & ham) served with either ham or Lancashire cheese sandwich. Generous portions of very fresh & tasty food. This meal deal cost a little under £6 per person, excellent value.
After considering many alternative eateries for Sunday supper we returned to Fat Olives for the 2 or 3 course menu of the day. Good choice of 3 or 4 starters, mains and puddings. We ate early (6ish), within the hour this restaurant was getting nicely busy with people we though were repeat visitors.
Ok, the location is just a little stroll up hill (5mins Max) out of the village but well worth a visit.
