Recently spent 3 nights at May Cottage during our travels around England. Sue and Len are supurb host and full of wonderful suggestions and recommendations for sightseeing around the Lakes District. The rooms are warm and cosy, breakfast just great and the home is just a few minutes walk from the lake and the shops .Great hosts, great B and B ,looking forward to our returning

It's been a long time since we've had a weekend away in our own country, as t'other half is reluctant to go anywhere unless there's guaranteed sunshine. But May Cottage got our break off to a lovely warm start, with a friendly reception from Sue, who made us a brew and left us to settle in our attic room after quickly showing us how everything worked.

The weather was drizzly that day, but we were right in the heart of Bowness so we had a good look round without getting too wet, and picked out a restaurant for our evening meal - again, nowhere is any real distance from here, so it's an ideal location for us - peaceful, great views, but very central. And the big bed in our room was extremely comfortable!

Breakfast was notable for two reasons, both of them positive: the food was both plentiful and tasty, and Sue's tales of everyday b&b folk kept all her guests amused.

T'other half was so impressed that he wants to go back! And we even got a sliver of sunshine on day two! Not exactly Med weather, but who needs it in a place which basks in human warmth?

Our recent stay at May Cottage B&B in August for 5 days was superb. We were wonderfully looked after, our room with a lovely bathroom and a big bath, (most appreciated after a day of walking!) and a very comfortable room. everything was close by, meaning we didn't have to rely on our car as we were able to take a couple of Lake trips within walking distance and shops were close by. Sue and Len went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were so helpful. Would thoroughly recommend May Cottage as a wonderful place to stay!

Room Tip: We had room no.1 and it was lovely and also quiet.

Having recently returned from a short 3 night stay at May Cottage, I am pleased to say my husband and I had an amazing time. A superb B + B in an ideal location (only a five minute walk to lake windermere).
Our room (Room 3) was perfect. It was comfortable, and spotlessly clean with a lovely en-suite bathroom.
The breakfast was brilliant and set us up for the day.
Our hosts Sue and Len were smashing. Sue esspecially was very knowledgeable about the local area, and we had a couple of local walks which they reccomended to us.
Another point I must add, the B + B has its own private car park which was very useful.
Hope to return again next year!

Over the years we have stayed in dozens of hotels & B&B's in the lakes, so I think we are well qualified to say that May Cottage is the best! Very well appointed rooms, great breakfast, good value for money, off road parking and very friendly service. Sue and Len made us feel very welcome. Thanks

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2 & 3 were all very good. Room 2 sleeps 4. Room 3 has a view of the lake,

We have just returned from an excellent Bank holiday weekend in the Lakes, thank's in no small part played by Sue & Len, propriortors of May Cottage. There are absolutely no negatives, from friendly arrival to SAD departure. The rooms are modern, comfortable, and above all clean throughout with attentive service if you want it without being "obtrusive". A hearty breakfast (cooked by Len) in a friendly dinning room will set you up for the day, helped along with a few tales from Sue to lighten the already relaxed atmosphere.
If you are new to the area as we were, then you will find Sue & Len are a wealth of knowledge, and no doubt will be able to point you in the right direction with regards on what to see and do. The location of May Cottage is perfect, only minutes to the lake and all of the shops, restaurants, and watering holes you will ever need, so much so that we parked the car (off road) on arrival and never used it again untill our sad departure.
This is a gem of a bed & breakfast in a great location well worthy of its high rating on tripadvisor, so many people carn't be wrong, all Sue & Len need to do is carry on doing exactly what they are doing at present because it works a treat. We will definately be back again, not as guests but as friends.
