Of all the bed and breakfasts we have stayed in, and there have been some really nice ones, May Cottage was just perfect for us and is a nicely decorated, stylish place with a touch of class. It was clean, warm, comfortable, and provided a marvellous healthy breakfast. Car parking easy. So many things to see and do. We we will be back! It's a perfect place and location. Close to the lake. Wish more places were like this!

Room Tip: They are all lovely. The one we chose had a fantastic pressurized shower, which is all we needed. Fo...

Beautiful setting, beautiful cottage and lovely people. On arrival we were offered a cup of tea and shown to our room which was clean, well decorated and had an AMAZING bathroom, including a power shower with a kettle and condiments included. We were informed of local amenities and recommended visits. We forgot our toothpaste, and were kindly offered a tube.

The cottage is situated 1 minute from town, and 3 minutes from the lake which we could see from our window. It was also a 10 minute walk to the cross river (50p pedestrian) ferry.

The breakfast was well-cooked, tasty, and an excellent start to the day, with as much toast and jam as we wanted on top of the full english, cereal and fresh fruit salad.
The gym facilities were in a neighbouring hotel, a 2 minute walk away and had simple, clean spa facilities.

We returned from a day out to find our room spotless, a freshly made bed, and a pair of wine glasses for the wine we had on the side table - a lovely touch.
Overall, an excellent experience and have already recommended to family and friends.
Definitely the place to stay if visiting in and around Bowness.

Room Tip: We had room number 1 which had lake views from bathroom.

This is truly the best B&B we have stayed in, and the marble bathroom would grace any five star hotel. The owners Sue and Len were very friendly and helpful, and even offered a cup of tea on arrival. The rooms have been beautifully decorated, and the bathroom was truly stunning. The breakfast, was freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients and was delicious. It is located within a minutes walk of Bowness. If you are going to Bowness then this is the place to stay.

We have just spent 2 months on a driving holiday around the UK, staying in mainly B & B's. May Cottage stood out as the best by far. Our hosts Sue and Len made us feel like part of the family and went out of their way to welcome us to the beautiful "lakes district". From the welcome warm drink on arrival, clean, comfortable rooms and modern bathrooms to the best breakfast ever, we could not have been happier with our choice to stay at May Cottage. We will be back !!!!!

Room Tip: Our top floor room 3 was light and airy.

It's been a long time since we've had a weekend away in our own country, as t'other half is reluctant to go anywhere unless there's guaranteed sunshine. But May Cottage got our break off to a lovely warm start, with a friendly reception from Sue, who made us a brew and left us to settle in our attic room after quickly showing us how everything worked.

The weather was drizzly that day, but we were right in the heart of Bowness so we had a good look round without getting too wet, and picked out a restaurant for our evening meal - again, nowhere is any real distance from here, so it's an ideal location for us - peaceful, great views, but very central. And the big bed in our room was extremely comfortable!

Breakfast was notable for two reasons, both of them positive: the food was both plentiful and tasty, and Sue's tales of everyday b&b folk kept all her guests amused.

T'other half was so impressed that he wants to go back! And we even got a sliver of sunshine on day two! Not exactly Med weather, but who needs it in a place which basks in human warmth?

Our recent stay at May Cottage B&B in August for 5 days was superb. We were wonderfully looked after, our room with a lovely bathroom and a big bath, (most appreciated after a day of walking!) and a very comfortable room. everything was close by, meaning we didn't have to rely on our car as we were able to take a couple of Lake trips within walking distance and shops were close by. Sue and Len went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were so helpful. Would thoroughly recommend May Cottage as a wonderful place to stay!

Room Tip: We had room no.1 and it was lovely and also quiet.
