Just got back from a lovely stay with Sue and Len at May Cottage. The room and bathroom were very well kept, the bed was comfortable, the temperature was perfect and we felt refreshed in the morning having had a good nights sleep. The breakfast was delicious and charged us up nicely for the day ahead! There was no shortage of small adventures for us to embark on while we were there as Sue offered some great suggestions for activities based on her excellent knowledge of the area. The hosts were very friendly and entertaining. Highly recommend staying here if you're looking to take a trip to Bowness.

We have just got back from a lovely stay at May Cottage, Sue is the perfect host and nothing is too much trouble. The English breakfast in the morning is nothing short of tremendous! The rooms are spotless, as are the en suite bathrooms. It is ideally situated to walk into Bowness which is just at the bottom of the road as is Lake Windermere. We really could not fault this place and cannot recommend it highly enough!

Myself & husband stayed in the budget room a last minute booking, Hubbies first time to the lakes. Sue & Len made us feel right at home nothing was too much trouble. Even lent me their mobile phone charger as I'd forgot mine, with 2 boys at home wanted easy contact. Breakfast was brill lovely friendly chat over a lovely cooked breakfast thanks Len!!!! This B&B is well situated easy walking distance to lakes, town and of course most importantly pubs. I loved the comfy bed and it was fantastic to have good old fashioned blankets & not a quilt on the bed. Would we go again ... the answer is simple..yes...,

Sue just to let you know I got my crisp picker (gadget) for Christmas I'll bring it with me nxt time a come and stay.. Gadget competition is on :)

Just back from a relaxing break in the Lake District. Staying at May cottage made the stay just perfect...everything we needed for a superb holiday. Sue and Len were lovely and make the perfect hosts with nothing too much trouble. Our full English breakfast was just amazing, our room at the top of the stairs was perfect, spotless and accommodated our stay wonderfully. May cottage is first class accommodation and we highly recommend, in fact as soon as we get a free weekend we will be returning to relax and enjoy once again.

What a lovely guest house to stay and get away from it all. The cottage is beautiful and very well presented. Clean, tidy and very well maintained. The hanging baskets in full bloom are a feature in themselves. A very homely feel.
The rooms are very well kept and presented and provided a great base for me and my partner. The landlady and landlord can not do enough to make you feel welcome. They are very knowledgable of the area which I found very helpful in planning my days around the Lakes. Breakfast provided is a great experience in that the food is well cooked with local produce used. Try the sausage! The landlady Sue shares her experiences of the area and that of her home country Australia which inspires your day and a great way to start any day in my opinion.
The cottage is well situated for a short stroll into town for restaurants, bars and ice cream as well as a great base for visiting areas further afield via boat, car or public transport.
A very pleasurable stay and looking forward to returning.
Thanks to Sue & Len.

When we arrived at may cottage we were unable to get into the car park as there was a large van parked there and someone trimming bushes.
the main road outside the cottage is quite busy and there are yellow lines so you are unable to park on the road. The car park is extremely small and is very difficult to get into.
When we entered may cottage we were asked to take our shoes of so as not to dirty the carpet, we thought this was quite unusual.
We were shown to our room which was the top room in the house, but my partner being chlostrophobic, and the room was very small, so we were offered another larger room which cost us a little more.
Our first nights sleep was unfortunately disturbed by the landlady banging on the door at around 1.30 am to inform us that we had forgotten to turn the bathroom light out and she could hear the extractor fan going downstairs.
In the morning the breakfast was a little limited choice, but was very pleasant. The landlady stayed with you whilst having breakfast, and gave a lecture on the area and the history of the lake district. As we are not morning people, we would have preferred to just have a quiet half hour or so to wake ourselves up properly before going out for the day.
All in all, we thought the price was a little high for the amenities that are available, then again we thought the area in general was a little pricey.
We hadn't used a guest house for years, and I think we will be sticking to hotels in the future.

if you are looking to stay at a friendly, well presented and spotless B&B in Windemere this is the place to stay!!

We decided to stay here based on reviews from other guests and cant sing the praises of the owners (Sue and Len) enough!! From the moment we arrived Sue's hospitality was faultless, she is pleasant, friendly and very accommodating (no request is too much trouble). The room we stayed in was larger than we expected (as was the bathroom), well furnished and spotless!! As Sue knew we would be exploring the area she provided us with some books and maps to help us plan some lovely walks!! The breakfasts were delicious with a good selection available and enough coffee to keep us going throughout the day. After long days walking the room was extremely comfortable and warm to unwind in.

The cottage is only a few minutes walk into the town centre, where there is a good choice of restaurants and pubs, and just 5 minutes walk to the edge of Lake Windemere!

When we next return to explore the Lakes further we will definitely be staying at May Cottage again.
