“Yet another perfect & peaceful stay. Bliss.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2012

We've been visiting the Linthwaite now for about 13 years and still choose it over other Lake District hotels time and time again.

We only usually manage a 1-night stay (without our 3 children, bliss) and normally go for my birthday in November and wedding anniversary in March. We never leave the hotel!

Our last stay, as always, was faultless. Beautiful rooms, amazing food and a wine list sent from heaven. 24 hours felt like a 2 week break.

It's so nice to have your special occasion acknowledged be it a card in the room or a marzipan iced with Happy Birthday at the end of an amazing evening dinner.

All the staff engage with you, are courteous, polite and professional and nothing is too much trouble.

Already planning our next return visit, because we know it will once again meet if not exceed our expectations.

Keep it up Andy and your team. Can't wait to come back.

This must be the third or fourth time we have returned to Linthwaite including our daughters wedding there. Every time, every thing lives up to our expectations! Such a beautiful location, the finest food and yes the deepest slumber! Every room is so tastefully decorated and so very comfortable and the staff (Andy, Sarah and Team) attentive without being intrusive and of course the January sale is a bargain! Once you have stayed at Linthwaite House you will want to return again and again!

P.S. Just one little hint - we missed the background music in the dining room!!

This was our third visit, taking advantage of the 'january special', which is fantastic value. Visiting Linthwaite has become our annual 'foodie weekend' treat.

We got engaged this time (!). I chose a preferred double, and got 'room 34' - which we were delighted with, large room with a double shower and separate double bath (only some rooms have this). I'll try and get the same room again next year.

I love the food here. Stand-out dishes were the smoked roe deer, brill with vegetable broth, scallops with black pudding, panna cotta with rosewater and pomegranate, cassis sorbet, tonka bean dessert. The wines she chose (she's the expert), esp. the Fleurie and Brouilly were delicious. We enjoy the breakfasts as much as dinner. You can have nice sandwiches for lunch, take afternoon tea, etc.

The staff are great, attentive but warm and friendly - this isn't a stuffy place.

The hotel has a warm, comfortable, quite atmosphere. There are a number of cosy connected rooms downstairs, and a large conservatory and terrace that has great views.

I find that a 'long weekend' three night stay is just right.

We are very grateful to everyone at Linthwaite for helping to make our weekend special, and we hope to return again next year.

Room Tip: Room 34 has an amazing double shower and double bath. Not a lake view though.

This was our 5th visit to the Linthwaite House and yet again we
were not disappointed.
There is a lovely atmosphere at the
hotel.The staff are friendly and
efficient.The rooms are spotlessly
clean with excellent amenities.
It is a great place to spend a January break.
After a long walk the lounge and conservatory are a lovely place to slump into a sofa with a pot of tea and papers.
They also serve an excellent range of beers.
The service at dinner was excellent
despite the restaurant being full....... and this was on a Sunday night in January. It shows just
how popular the hotel is.
After a lovely breakfast we were left
with the memory of another enjoyable break.
Looking forward to the next visit

It is hard to actually criticise this hotel. We fancied a short break in the Lakes, stopped for coffee, liked the hotel, so asked for a room. As part of the 50% January special we were offered a "preferred room " at £215 for DBB, the only one left. From the welcoming fire as you walk in to the universally obliging proficient and very friendly staff, the suberb setting and the truly splendid food it was all very enjoyable.

Our room had both a shower cubicle and a shower over the bath. The shower cubicle unit was impossible to operate, but the over bath shower was first class, a useful spare!.

When the wine was delivered they said "You ordered number 100 Sir" , I said "No I ordered a bottle of Beaujolais Villages"! The wine was served in splendid and appropriate large glasses, but for perfection just a little over-filled.

This is indeed nit-picking, which actually demonstrates overall how good the hotel is. Splendid and recommended, but I just wonder if it is good value when the 50% offer is not on.

Room Tip: Not many rooms take advantage of the outstanding views. Maybe best to go for cheapest room and use t...

Many thanks for your wonderful review.

I understand your comment about value, and it's true it is amazing at the moment. Consequently we are having a very busy January and we will have a fantastic February too. It's just like being at the Harrods sale on the first day!

Of course back to normal prices will seem expensive by comparison but prices are dictated by the customer; supply and demand.

Of course once you are on our mailing list you will hear about more fantastic offers, which may not be advertised, though limited availability will apply.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon,

Kind regards

We searched the internet for a 'special' hotel for a two night stay to celebrate my partner's 50th birthday, the Linthwaite did not disappoint and infact surpassed all our expectations. Promotional photographs are often taken from such an angle that the reality is disappointing but not in this case, it looks fabulous on the website and is even more fabulous in reality. As an extra special treat we booked the Loft Suite which is very luxurious and very comfortable; it is beautifully designed, even down to the creative lighting, remote controlled flickering fire and the bathroom tv. Breakfast in bed on the birthday morning arrived exactly as ordered and exactly on time. The attention to detail in the design of the room is reflected throughout the hotel with the service, the food and the staff, nothing is too much trouble and everything is done to the very highest standard. We were greeted on arrival by a welcoming crackling log fire in the reception which presented a lovely first impression, if you are looking for a relaxing break in a picturesque setting, this is the place, it is, as intended, a luxury 'unstuffy' hotel, where you can relax and be yourself. We would recommend this hotel unreservedly, especially the Loft Suite, although even though we took advantage of the half price January offer, we will have to save up before our next visit!

Room Tip: Book the Loft Suite if the budget is big enough!
