“Pricey but lovely”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

Stayed here in mid June for 1 night. We had the 50% off summer madness offer - I really liked the hotel but full price it would be very expensive!
Stayed in one of the superior rooms (26 I think), very nicely appointed, not enormous but spacious enough. No lake view unfortunately.
Small niggle - you could hear all the other doors opening and closing in the corridor and during the night, we were quite warm (despite the weather being quite cold) - and this made the door "bang" quite annoyingly. However we left a note about this and I have confidence the hotel will look into it.
Very nice personable staff, seemed genuinely interested in their guests. When we arrived there was a lovely smile waiting for us, yet no formal "reception" desk. Very nice.
View is currently a bit obscured by some machinery but doubt it will be there long.
We took a wander to the nearby tarn - view from there is exceptional.
Ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Very much enjoyed both. Dinner was very good quality - some interesting combinations on the plate and although my starter (smoked salmon) was exceptional I wasn't 100% convinced by some of the other combinations I still enjoyed the meal very much and especially the relaxed pace with nibbles in the conservatory beforehand etc.
Breakfast was very nice and cooked to order. Nice bread and pastries provided too, unlike most hotels little is provided "buffet style" which means a more relaxed breakfast and not feeling stuffed either.
We will be going back. When we were there we were easily the younger guests (mid 30s) however I expect the crowd is much more mixed at weekends and during holidays.

No pool/spa but you can use the nearby Old England hotel and I think they will come to your room on request!

Many thanks for your kind and constructive review.

The machinery at the front is a tool for getting the painter up high to keep up the continuous maintenance work we have to do to maintain standards; it will be gone next week leaving a freshly painted hotel front! So much nicer than scaffolding though!

You are quite right about the ages of our guests, we do tend to get our very many 'been befores' returning midweek because they know that's when you can get the best rates and of course many are not working. But I'm proud to write that we do get people of all ages through three generations staying with us.

Come again soon,

Kind regards

Mike Bevans

Have stayed at the Linthwaite a couple of times and always really enjoy it. The rooms are perfect the beds very comfortable and the bathrooms large and spotlessly clean. The views from the lounge are stunning and if you are lucky enough to miss the rain the terrace is the best place to enjoy your evening drinks. I always enjoy the different menus and the staff when you get them to relax are very nice. My only complaint is that the prices they quote for rooms seem to differ even when you call them direct and the 50% discount vouchers which they send out never seem to include the night I want to stay. Never mind still worth the visit but would go more often if they charged slightly less.

Room Tip: Ask for a view or one of the garden rooms which are a new addition

Many thanks for your wonderful review.

Regarding vouchers; the only restriction we put on them is the can't be used with another offer.
For example as we are running a limited availability 50% off room and breakfast at the moment, we wouldn't be able to afford to do a further 50% off if you used the voucher.

Sorry!

We look forward to being able to welcome you back again in the future,

Mike Bevans

Another review I have been meaning to write for sometime, so apologoies for lateness! We have stayed at the Linthwaite a couple of times now and both occasions experienced exactly the same great things, lovely food, helpful staff and another beautiful view of Lake Windermere. Nothing better than sitting outside on the terrace, drink in hand and taking in the wonderful views! If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle, we would highly recommend the Lake District and Linthwaite House!

We have visited Linthwaite House many times since it opened & the rooms and hotel have continued to improve. We stayed in room 24 which overlooks a small garden. The bathrooms are well appointed. The only weakness would be the coffee making facilities which could do much better than the standard sachets of freeze dried! The service is excellent. The food is very good if a little expensive. We will continue to return to this hidden gem.

This is the second time we have visited. As usual the service & staff were excellent, nothing is too much trouble. This is a little piece of tranquillity with spectacular views of the lakes,a quiet tarn with a lovely walk set in the grounds - the perfect place to unwind & relax.
If you enjoy gourmet food look no further. The menus are outstanding with locally sourced ingredients cooked to the highest standards.
So if you fancy spoiling yourself take a look at the website you will not be dissappointed.

The hotel is located in a beautiful position, with lovely grounds and views. The service was excellent, very attentive, without being intrusive and the food is exquisite! The combinations in the dishes were unusual and beautifully presented; a refreshing change from the standard fare of daily life!

The bedroom was comfortable and well stocked with toiletries, bath robes and tea and coffee facilities. The only problem was that I was kept awake one night by the person above us talking loudly on his phone at well past midnight!! I can't blame the hotel for this though!

My husband brought me here for a surprise short break, our first time away together without our four small children for a long time, and it was lovely! Just wish we could've had longer!

Room Tip: We were in room 9 which didn't have a particularly great view, although it was pleasant enough...

We had visited Linthwaite House previously a number of years ago and had always wanted to return again . The opportunity for us to do so came about and we are so pleased that we decided to do so . We stayed for only 1 night on 02/06 , the weekend of the Queens Diamond Jubilee , and booked into Room 21 , the room comes complete with its own private and secluded outside hot tub , and has views over Windermere to die for . The hot tub is a great idea and its position means it could be used pretty much all year round , great place to chill with a nice bottle of Champagne.
The room itself is situated on the ground floor and is only a short walk along the corridor to the main hotel reception , it is a good size , with a separate wardrobe area , complete with hairdrier , iron and ironing board and a lovely bathroom , with a huge shower and a bath complete with TV . The bathroom is well stocked with toiletries and bathrobes .
We ate in the hotel in the evening and were very impressed with the high standard of food on offer , which was very well presented , and service was excellent . The choice of wines and drinks was good and they were priced quite well.
The hotel has a great secluded feel about it , yet is actually really well positioned to go exploring in the area . We found all staff to be very helpful , eager to please and we will definitely be returning at sometime in the future

Well done to all at Linthwaite

Room Tip: Can Highly Recommend Room 21 , comes complete with its own Hot Tub and Amazing views over Lake Winde...

Brilliant. I've been wanting to try the hot tub ever since we installed it over a year ago but it's been too well occupied. We were inspired to do it from a visit to South Africa a few years ago where a small hotel perched on a cliff had a Jacuzzi in a separate room from which you could watch the sunset (as you can at Linthwaite) but you had to pay to go and use it by the hour. So we thought why not do one for a specific room?
Many thanks for your great review.
We hope we can welcome you back again one day,
From all of us at Linthwaite,
Mike Bevans
