We went for my partners birthday on arrival it was stunning and the welcome was warm and welcoming, the service was outstanding the staff couldn't do enough for us, we were shown to our room and he give us a little demo of all the different lights and remotes etc which was helpful i really liked the fact the heated towel rail was controlled by a switch that you controlled yourself we stayed in room 7 which was a junior suite and was light spacious and airy very clean and well decorated the only thing i would say is there was no dressing table area for me to get ready, the bathroom was gleaming and spacious but the bath was very small in length and width im only 5ft 1 inch and really struggled to bath in it which was disappointing because on the pictures it showed a bath and shower big enough for two which was not the case and it was what we wanted. The food was amazing and the hotel was beautiful and clean i would stay here again!! They do offer some nice little touches we bought the movie night package after our meal for just £7 we got a choice of hundreds of DVDs and then they brought to the room two soft drinks two bars of chocolate a tub of ice-cream and a pot of popcorn!!!!although they did not have any spa or pool facilities.

Ah thanks a lot for that brilliant review. Sorry about the bath! I'm 6 4" so I can empathise. I had one even shorter the other day somewhere. But I'm glad it didn't spoil your stay. We hope to be able to welcome you back again, thanks

Fabulous hotel - friendly staff, lovely breakfasts, superb views across the lake, the dreamiest pillows, power showers you don't want to get out of, perfect afternoon tea overlooking the gardens. Will come back soon.

Room Tip: we had a room with a hot tub outside

Living locally and having dined at Linthwaite House previously, My husband and I and two friends decided to book tea for the afternoon of Sunday,June 23, 2013. We arrived at the agreed time of 4pm to be shown into a room where there was no free table. The waiter mumbled an assurance that he would try to find us one. In the meantime we sat down on a sofa which had a small trunk placed in front. Our friends found a very small table with two chairs. The waiter eventually returned to tell us that people had not left and that he would try to "fix us up" where we were sitting and that it was a pity we were separated from our friends. After pointing out that we had a reservation for a table for four and were not prepared to eat off a trunk, apart from our companions. He suggested we eat in the bar which turned out to be a dark, windowless room, not at all appropriate for tea on a June Sunday afternoon, particularly in a hotel with stunning views. When we realised the waiter could not provide us with a decent place where we could sit together, we left and fortunately found a warm welcome at the nearby Lindeth Howe Hotel. The staff here went out of their way to make us welcome. The tea, by the way, was delicious.

Thanks for your review, and I'm sorry you weren't happy.

People have been using the trunks as tables in the lounges at Linthwaite for 23 years quite happily so you are the first not to be.

I know my staff did their utmost to to make you happy, but as we say, we can't win them all.

We knew you'd be happy with Lindeth Howe who do a splendid job.

Surprise trip to the lakes rounded off with a tesco points afternoon tea. Sandwiches, cakes, scones, tea and yoghurt with excellent service in a excellent setting up in the hills overlooking Windermere.

I spent a week using Alastair-Sawday-recommended hotels in Scotland, and started off with this venue in the lake district. Quite honestly, it was the best of a very good bunch. Welcoming staff, two rooms that are dog-friendly (you need to book well ahead), bathrooms/bedrooms that are classically furnished, incredibly clean, well-thought out and well-equipped, without being twee or over-cluttered. Various nice touches (good sign-posting, daily weather bulletins, personal welcome note) made me feel as though the management had really given thought to their clients' needs. Excellent breakfast, too. I felt at home, and would definitely stay there again/recommend it to others.

Thanks very much for the kind review.

Yes, we do think about the guests' needs all the time.

We stay in other up and coming places and try to see it from the guest's point of view.

Then we adjust the service, tweak the design, and everything is in a constant state of evolution.

That's why we listen and respond to these reviews!

Our daughters were at a loss to give us something special for our golden anniversary, and we suggested a short break in the Lake District. Their choice of hotel was first class. We stayed for three nights and the staff were all excellent. The food, from breakfast to dinner was inventive and cooked and presented beautifully. We could not fault this hotel at all and will be returning. Thank you once again to all the staff who were really friendly and took the time to make people welcome.

We had booked a 50th birthday weekend in the Lakes for a friend and on checking in at our hotel in Ambleside were told we were not booked in and that there was another hotel in Coniston with same name which was where we had been booked. We arrived and it was more than awful .I looked on line and found Linthwaite House and rang and told them situation.Within 5 minutes Robin rang me back and said they could do 2 rooms and was just delightful as I was upset. On arrival she came out to meet us and showed us round the hotel, stunning location! The rooms were beautifully and tastefully decorated and a good size.We decided to cancel the meal we had booked and eat in the hotel...aperitifs on the beautiful terrace with delicious homemade canapés,the meal was superb and staff and service great.Breakfast equally good .On check out the staff were really concerned to know we had enjoyed ourselves and gave us a great send off.
Getting the wrong hotel did us a favour as the hotel we were booked into would not have been able to deliver the same experience.Great team and great hotel.
