“Loving Linthwaite”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

My partner and I stayed here on 24th and 25th July 2014 and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea on the terrace in the sunshine. The hotel was like a white oasis in a beautiful garden and grounds, with a great view of the hills and lake in the distance. The staff were friendly and polite and nothing was too much trouble. We had breakfast and evening meal which were very tasty and well-presented. The room was very stylish and comfortable. The rest of the hotel was very attractively decorated also. We explored the beautiful region and found the Linthwaite a perfect base to do this from. I would highly recommend staying there.

Linthwaite has a superb location above Windermere. You only get a narrow sight of the lake itself, but it's nevertheless a great view from a great terrace with with tables for drinks and snacks. It's clearly a country house hotel, but with a modern touch. I loved the style - not chintzy and too old worldy but not ultra modern either. The staff are very friendly and helpful and address you by your name - you feel like a guest, not a paying customer (we also got a personalised email from the owner thanking us for the kind comments we left on the feedback form). As well as the terrace there is a lawn for croquet and a small tarn for fishing. They do not have their own sports and spa facilities but have an arrangment with another hotel in Bowness (v. close) which does. The lounge and conservatory are great places to relax with a tea reading on a wet day when you can't go out. The restaurant is excellent (I only had one dish which didn't hit the mark) with local ingredients and a fine wine list. The beers are also local and fine - Hawkeshead Lakeland Gold being particularly good. The only downside was that our room was a bit small, but still beautifully kept. Oh - they also have a drying room for when you come back from the fells with sopping wet gear! Would definitely go back

My friend and I visited Linthwaite House Hotel for afternoon tea, following their instruction to find their location. Parking was plentiful and our reception was extremely friendly. The view from the patio was stunning (of course) and a board showed us the names of each mountain, adding to the enjoyment. The afternoon tea was "to die for" as my friend put it, and when we couldn't get through it all (sandwiches, two scones with clotted cream & damson jam, a yoghurt dessert, strawberry tart, carrot cake, pistachio & white chocolate bar and Victoria sponge) we were both given what was left, in a sturdy little box. This was a special treat, which was good value for money, with staff who are friendly, efficient and attentive - definitely a place to which we will return!

We visit Linthwaite for an extended family lunch every year, and it's a sheer joy. Every tiny little detail has been thought of, and you come away feeling refreshed and replenished (and that's just after lunch - imagine what a stay could do!) The grounds are beautiful, and well worth an exploration, the conservatory is so comfortable to enjoy pre and after meal drinks, with a view that's truly special. The food is wonderful - local, fresh, seasonal and beautifully cooked and presented (children's as well as adults'). What is outstanding about this lovely experience is the warmth, friendliness and attention to detail offered by the staff - there really isn't anything that's any trouble for them. After our leisurely lunch (which lasted about 3 hours!) my 9 year old daughter let a contented sigh and said "I wish I didn't have to leave here!" I know how she feels! We look forward to returning next year.

Wonderful afternoon tea in heavenly location. We booked afternoon tea and we could not have any better experience anywhere. We ate on the terrace in the picturesque grounds overlooking Lake Windermere from aloft, the food was 1st class, the staff very attentive and location perfect. After we had eaten we enjoyed the gardens and the Hotel own tarn with a sun house on the shore. We have had a few afternoon teas but everything about this treat was perfect and would be hard to be beaten. HEAVEN !!!!!!!

We loved Linthwaite. The staff, without exception, are so friendly and helpful. The view over Lake Windermere is stunning. Do not leave without a walk through the grounds to the tarn (lake) and summerhouse. The dinners were beautiful - we didn't bother with trying a new restaurant in town on our second night, as we loved the menu so much. Windermere can get very crowded. We walked the 15 minutes down the lanes into town and were shocked at the number of tourists (2-4 July). We hired a wooden rowboat and rowed out onto the lake and had wine & baguettes we had bought - it was fantastic. It is a short cab ride back. We would love to return!

Fantastic! You paint a great picture of a delightful English idyll.
Do not forget to visit the tarn when you come to Linthwaite; so many miss out on it.
Linthwaite is a haven of peace and tranquility amongst the busy summer hubub of the Lakes. Many don't even bother to leave whilst they are staying here.
Come back soon,
Best wishes,

Mike
